Seriously, instead of showing the race, we have going to a graphic and phone interview??
This is absurd. Jill Montgomery is an idiot. They haven't even mentioned Dani Jones or Taylor Werner's potential impact in the team race.
go to hell ESPN.

yeah that phone interview was an all time low. It was just a dumb graphic on the screen. It's the 2nd to last event with MASSIVE team point implications and they cut out 5 minutes of it. But the worst part:
IT WAS FROM THE WRONG MEET. The men's and women's meets are separate. The NCAA separated them on purpose for TV. Why the hell are they crossing streams?
Jill was really good on the SEC champs broadcast. I could not believe it was her Thursday night during the 10,000.
Totally agree with OP.
These loser TV people must think they're producing a Broadway musical instead of a track meet.
to hell with you wrote:

Most TV viewers have no interest in track & field and no idea that the championship was this week. During the phone interview with Renaldo Nehemiah he said he was not watching it live. I got the impression he did not know the championship was even going on. At least he knew beforehand that Grant Holloway was one who could possibly beat his record. So even the record holder had something better to do than to watch the biggest meet of the season where his 40 year old record had a chance of being broken.
I agree I did not like the viewing angles. Just because NBC and others may use them too does not make them good. Show us the athletes and the race.
Don't show me:
- just the athlete's legs as they go by.
- field event highlights. I have little interest in them. Show them on a separate channel only and make them and track event available for viewing later. Those that want to see field events don't want their viewing interrupted either to see an event they would never watch.
- just the first lap and the last few laps. For the women's 3000 SC we got to see the first lap and the last 3. I did not note how little of the women's 5000m we got to see. I don't care if there is not much change in position of the leaders. I may want to see how someone further back if moving around. I want to see when the athletes spread out and when the lead pack pulls away from the others.
- athlete highlights or prior interviews during an event
- just the winner after they cross the line. I want to see my son or daughter or relative or athlete on my favored team cross the finish line too. Someone here said viewers only care about the winner. I only care to see them up to point they cross the finish line. There is still a race going on and I want to see the other competitors finish.
The NCAA championships are not like the Olympics of the past where many would watch sports that they never would watch outside of the Olympics. With so many other screen alternatives such as gaming, Netflix, and others they should cover the events for the fans of track & field who are watching and not worry about others who never watch.
Why did they interview the one woman tonight while she was still on her hands and knees? It seemed disrespectful. It made it appear that ESPN thought their media coverage was more important than the athlete catching her breath. Luckily for them the athlete was not sick so did not vomit. At least some athletes ignored the dumb questions and went forward with their prepared remarks that they did it for their teammates who were back home.
The announcing was consistently awful throughout the meet.
You know it's bad when you miss Danny Lee and Carol Lewis.

BIG FACTS
Then during the race Dan O'Brien corrects Stones to say it was FSU that dropped the baton. As the teams come down the last 100 meters, both Texas Tech and FSU are battling for 2nd place. Guess they couldn't have looked at a heat sheet to see which team was in lane 6, or remember from the list of teams they just announced 30 seconds earlier.
