Did Trump or AOC tweet about this yet?
No. She came to the US in 2014, representing Eritrea in the junior games in Oregon. Once here, she declared asylum, quite reasonable given the repressive regime in the country. She went to Leesburg, VA and enrolled at age 18. She then completed her four years of high school in three years. But because her final year of high school (2016-2017), she turned twenty, she was ineligible to compete in Virginia High School Athletics. She competed a bit unattached but largely focused on school, taking a bulked up course load, in an effort to go D1.
She worked her tail off, running 100 miles a week, finishing four years of school in three years, working a part time job and learning English. So incredible to see her win an NCAA title.
As her high school coach, I couldn’t sing that girls praises enough. She has sacrificed so much and worked very hard for a better life. She is 22 right now and honestly one of the kindest and most humble people you will ever meet.
The whole system of tying sports to academics at school is nuts. But this is the system we have. That said, if someone outside the U.S. comes in, does well and potentially stays in the U.S. as a positive member of society, I'm fine with granting scholarships to foreign athletes. Immigrants generally make the U.S. better, and you can't convince me otherwise.
Weini seems like an awesome human being.
Let’s just get this all straight.
After high school running is global and ageless.
Youngsters get the idea that college is a continuation of high school out of your heads.
What other nations on earth take college sports seriously? This whole thing about age and international students and what not gets old. Like the previous poster said, American kids think college is high school part 2. It's not.

Still don’t understand why foreign athletes are given money and school space to do athletics here. She took at spot from and American at an American university. Therefore, that American who didn’t get the money will have to pay out of their own pocket to go to school.
I'd probably be more upset that American schools charges millions of American students waaaayy too much for universities in the first place rather than worry about a small handful of foreign students getting a discount.
I have no problem with Weini, she works hard and deserves her scholarship and title. She may stay and represent the US one day.
My problem is with the Oregon runner who kneels for our anthem.

oohh this sounds personal!
Why don't you like her? I don't know that much about her
Well she got owned in the 5,000 by an American, b!tch.
I wonder how the NCAA meet is playing out in Eritrea? Wait, they don't have an equivalent, she had to come here to get that experience.

America would better with you out of it and Weini in it.....I'll settle for 1 out of 2.
Uhhhhh let’s see what part about my statement in the post don’t you understand. I even made it a separate paragraph for lower level readers.

You never explained why you don't like the Oregon runner who kneels. Were you confused by the question?

It's a shame that everyone doesn't do the same thing.
Good for her for raising the standard!
Dude, even if you are an American you really need to examine yourself. Punks like you don't make us the power we are. Go find your safe space. Let real men defend you because you can't defend yourself.

I hope you are trolling, but who knows. The country is full of Patrio-Bros like you who will blindly follow anyone who waves a flag. During the revolution, your kind would have defended the King no matter what, shouted down any dissidents as unpatriotic and proclaimed Britain the Greatest Country on Earth, while the rest of us were out forming a country.
You may hate us, but be thankful. We are the reason you have a country to 'defend'.
Are you drinking or something? I am sitting here talking about defending Americans and you claim you are too. Problem is I was talking about someone claiming that they are happy that the Americans are being put down.
Now,, you laugh at patriotism but your Colin Kaepernick loving self would be sitting on the sidelines when Real Americans fought the battles of D-Day 75 years ago.
There's no problem with one athletes competing in the NCAA championships, but when you have to come on a site that is owned by American people and laugh and 5:00 p.m. And our country, you're not standing up for America, cokksucker.
Only a piece of s*** company like a liberal group of Google Trends late incorrectly what you're trying to say.
Only people who did not fully support Americans would come on this site and real against Americans for someone who is taking advantage of opportunities only an American University what the hell. The fact that you mock other Americans tells me all I need to know about you. You're probably a 50s something white male, with no children who hates America because you never were able to be the man that this country needed you to be.
