What a great battle, all the way down the backstretch and through the final curve. Damn it looked hot out there. Did someone say 88 degrees?
Nothing like a 25 year old holding off another 25 year old for a collegiate championship!
just so we're clear, Clayton Young won the Utah Gatorade Runner of the Year in 2012
Ok, only 3 in the top 12 for BYU. Let’s see if the BYU steeple guys will score more points than the 10,000m guys.

What is with the age obsession with foreigners and BYU guys?! You all need to chill out. No one is cheating and they're not trying to "game the system." They're all competing in the NCAA according to the rules of the NCAA.

I usually think the cries of racism on this site are overreactions by liberal whiners, but if Clayton Young was originally black and from Africa, came to the United States and won today at the same age, I think we'd be seeing a lot more complaints about this...

3 in top 4.
21 points for 10k crew
A little late in this thread, but in 1980, at the NCAA Track Championships in AUSTIN, I ran by a dehydrated, passed out Ed Eyestone lying on the track during the 10K as he had a hose pouring water on him. I'm guessing he remembered that episode and relayed it to his kids today. Just sayin'

it was a good 3 to be fair. would have been nice to see linkletter up there but 3 in the 10k top 4 would still be a crazy accomplishment for any school. plus, it seemed like there were some BYU team tactics going on so maybe their focus wasn't to have all 6 guys score (realistically) so they instead tried to work together + push their top 3.

Just in case it wasn't clear to you, this was the championship for the National Collegiate Athletic Association, not an 18-24 age group championship. The NCAA sets the standards, not some butthurt letsrun poster.

It's disheartening to be an NCAA athlete who entered college their freshman year. Trained for 4 years and is now 21 years old having just attended their own graduation ceremony, and are subsequently getting crushed by guys who are almost 5 years older than them.

How the hell did they get almost 5 years older when they only take 2 years off???
I hardly heard anything about Kurgat, even though she was at least as old and only a sophomore eligibility wise when she won cross, nor do people really talk about Kelati’s age. I know way more about the age of the BYU guys then the age of any of the Africans. The only age cheating I hear about is with the junior events, and that is a much greater concern since it is strictly age based whereas collegiate athletics are not solely based on age classification.

I'm sure its also "disheartening" for these athletes to give up something they love for two years, watch their bodies and fitness go to waste and have to claw back from the bottom to return to their former selves.
There are two type of NCAA athletes: Those who find excuses of why others are better than them and those who don't care and just want to be the best. Those who are in the former group with you, sit at home and comment on the NCAA champs on letsrun. Those who are in the latter group got to toe the line tonight.
Are you guys not commenting on F.M. because you settled with that DJ from Philly?
This is the best distance team ever assembled. Studies show that runners peak athletically at 21 so these guys are disadvantaged by being older. Stop all of the crying about the rules. Change the rules or go play a different game.
How did NAU win XC?
1500m: BYU (1 finalist): NAU (0 finalist - nobody here)
3000st: BYU (4 finalists): NAU (0 finalist - nobody here)
10000m: BYU (3 in the top 12): NAU (1 in top 12 - behind BYU #3)
5000m to come... BYU have 2 here and NAU have 3 here

yes i think that's what we are arguing
I'm dying at the concept of healthy peak fitness 18-20 year olds "bodies and fitness going to waste" such that they "have to claw back from the bottom" while maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle and traveling around the world.
