Here is my 2 cents on control of the IAAF & DSD!!!
In regards to organisational control, the IAAF is weak! Not being able to have control over your organisational rules and decision making is ridiculous. We have seen this before with the IAAF & WADA. Band for steroid use were 4 years, then in the 90’s, WADA reduced the ban to 2 years and the IAAF ‘had’ to comply. In contrast, other sporting federations did & continue to do what they want. What would happen if the IAAF left CAS anyway? If CAS is under Swiss national control (via the Swiss Federal & Supreme Court) then it means that Switzerland controls the IAAF - end of!
As for DSD, I understand that gender is a complex & sensitive issue in life but when it come to sport, for the overwhelming majority of cases it really should be straightforward. Athletics really should be based on biology, not identity. Individuals with the genotype XY, should not be competing in women’s events. One could make an argument about those who are XY with an inactive Y chromosome but that is really besides the point. Having a Y chromosome and increased levels of testosterone are definitely an advantage. All this talk of ‘evidence’ is ludicrous because we see it every day in life - Men at each comparative level (post pubertal age, high school athlete vs high school athlete, international athlete vs international athlete etc) are faster and stronger than women. This is a fact and it’s the biology that makes it so. I have watched Semenya, Wambui & Niyonsaba dominate the women’s 800m for 4 years and nothing personal but it’s a travesty. They are XY with internal (or perhaps external) testicles. If an XX female athlete decides to take testosterone to reach their levels then she would be banned for doping. It’s ridiculous. How soon will it be before we see Male athletes who identify as female but are completely biologically Male competing and winning gold medals? It just happened in the NCAA’s!
