Yeah, 6th years are not commonplace but they are also far from needing explanation.

Tito Steiner
She's not going pro and won't be able to compete at this level once she starts med school.
Just look at the EKU roster and it will all make sense
Is she the fastest 10k American runner to not sign a pro contract?

Let me correct you - take 2 years to recover from 10 years of constant running & racing. And they do it in the middle of their college cycle.

Anyone can take 2 years off training and delay their college career if they want. You'd have to be an idiot to believe it would help you though.
Thank you. Exactly.
While not faster on time, Any Skeiresz won 7 NCAA titles despite foregoing her last season. She apparently trained briefly as a "pro" but never competed as one AFAIK. Definitely the most accomplished NCAA runner w/o a pro career.

Lesley Lehane?
This sounds very much like petty jealousy, and unworthy of whoever posted this. She's only 24 FFS, which is a perfectly reasonable age for NCAAs. If you're worried about a few months or a year or so, then why not highlight Kurgat et al (late 20's) - they are far older, but get a pass for (obvious) PC reasons. Loads of older 'mature' students in my day too (late 90s NCAAs) - we never complained, and why would you? You're all grown up now, and should be prepared to run against others on the start line, whether they are 20 or 30+ (excepting where XX females are pitted against XYs...but that's another story...). So, get over it..
This is a ridiculous post. Erin received a sixth year of track eligibility due to injuries and missed seasons. This is not unheard of in the NCAA and is in fact becoming more common. She has used her time to pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees and is headed to medical school. I am not sure why anyone would have a problem with this!
You need to read the actual book to make a fair assessment.

I feel bad for the BYU team. Basically take 2 years off and come back but people can only focus on their age for some reason.

What other universities have freshman win titles? Some of BYU best runners didn't go on missions. Last year Mantz ran high 28s for 10k. This year he is low 28s. Don't think his mission impacted last year's performance?

There's usually one specific scenario where this so called age-cheating issue comes up: BYU.
The beef seems to be religious. No one on this board ever calls Roman Catholics a cult, so Notre Dame doesn't prompt hate threads but the vitriol pours heavy when BYU or LDS comes up.
As is often pointed out on such threads, the NCAA is welcome to make age rules. Until they do, oh well....
You need to watch the play “Book of Mormon”. You will then understand.
LDS, I think Joseph Smith was on LSD.
Read the book and then you will understand.

One of her red shirt seasons was an "Olympic redshirt" which seems to be a BS reason for a redshirt.
