They’re raking Frank Meza over the coals pretty good on the other thread. It’s going national. Maybe there’s hope of accountability across Canada ?? yet.

Now Amby Burfoot has weighed in & defended his article vs. the cheater Meza. I met Amby years ago when Runners World sponsored my race. He’s not the kind to go after people & I personally am supportive in his case.
We’ve got plenty of people who want to take down these cheaters. I think you just have to be patient.
I’ve formed some profiles of some of the opposition posters in an attempt to deal properly with their feedback. It’s a mixed group. This isn’t counting a few who I actually know.
One is a middle distance track guy, zero knowledge of ultras, and even admitted he never heard of Terry Fox.
One seems to be a highly intelligent techie, ignorant of multidays. This one seems convinced I’m an experienced troll, because he mistakes my comfort with multidays for comfort with forums.
One seems to be the guy most responsible for generating Proctor’s fake numbers. He admitted he doesn’t have any interest in ultras (it shows, dude!) and hates when his GPS-based scams are contradicted by the actual towns across Canada.
One is a typical poster who admitted to just surfing through. He’s a cold fish who just enjoys a little controversy.
The good news is that the record across Canada takes so many days to break. It’s difficult to keep a scam going this long, especially after one failed attempt already. At the point where Asher tripped up Robert Young, you’d only be a third of the way across Canada.
I don’t think they’re unhinged, maybe they just need to get out a bit, or be in a stable marriage, that kind of thing. Multidays are better when you participate instead of just delving into theory.
I’m a caregiver, I’ve treated many terminally ill people. There are certainly worse things than being a troll.
And I certainly understand that the sport has become more professional, with fewer opportunities for the amateur.
The sort of retaliation that we’ve seen by Frank Meza certainly shows similarities to Proctor.
A cheater tries to avoid the appearance of being involved, while seemingly millions of bystanders protest his innocence.
Anonymous bystanders
Rojo stated that this controversy was only relevant, originally, because it was not anonymous on my end. No one in Proctor’s camp will go on the record, even though Guinness requires that.
Even experts like SteelTownRunner may be unaware that it was never a serious record attempt, since no one would witness it.
It’s like Guinness is being penalized for having rules, that no one in Proctor’s camp obeyed. Many are also unaware that Al Howie officially holds the record in Guinness.
It’s similar to people not knowing the Constitution claiming that Trump is just involved in some minor purely political squabble.
I read Laz’s online article on UltraRunning & he couldn’t hide his disappointment that Robert Young never sent verification of the claimed mileage after the attempt was over.
When I organized races, I was used to epithets from well-known runners. This is just like the good old days!
We had a discussion about anonymity the other day. Here, if you register properly you’re not anonymous to the Brojos, but of course Guinness requires legal name, signed & printed. Even runners like Devon Yanko compete at the WC under different names than races because of this.
Proctor would have kept these records anyway IF it was a real record attempt; possibly it was never meant to be real. In some cases, the pay is the same.
Latest is that I’m accused of running marathons before such records were posted on the Internet, which they think has existed since Einstein theorized it on a trolley in Switzerland ??? No, that was Relativity.
Ironically 2 famous ultra runners were there for my PR marathon at Miami in ‘94: Bill Menard (2X champion @ Badwater); & Sue Ellen Trapp.
Another irony is that everyone always says 2:59 is nothing to be proud of!

It's not, because you never did it. Show the proof or keep living in your fantasy world. LOL at YOU!
