I'm 38 years old, and hitting higher mileage than I have in about 8 years. I've had a few weeks at 45-50 mpw in the last month, after a reasonable build-up starting in Feb. I know 50mpw is nothing huge, but its a decent amount and enough to get into pretty good shape.
The runs actually feel pretty great...I am proactively slowing myself down, as I am trying to get more mileage than anything else, I am running about 7:40 when I am not pushing a stroller, about 8:20 when I am. I throw in a mile "surge" about once per week (thanks to my first GPS watch I can just hammer a mile in the middle of a run and know the #s). I'm doing 7 runs/week.
I feel really exhausted in normal life though. The exhaustion seems fairly predictable, after 3 days of 6 or 7/day, I'm wasted. Tired going up the stairs, tired when I walk "far" at the zoo or mall.
I don't know if this is normal for an "old" guy, maybe I need to really prioritize sleep, take a multi-vitamin....I am just looking for observations from the community.
My biggest week ever was 81, PR's, which seem irrelevant now, are 50, 1:54, 4:06, 26:23, my weight is good, I eat healthier than I ever have and probably would have overcome some of this exhaustion with sugar and junk food earlier in my life. The mile surges are coming in around 5:10. I am taking down day(s) if my body just does not want to get out the door, usually two 3 mile days or a bike day, then back up to 6 or 7/day.
I'm not training for anything really specific, maybe win a few small town 5k's this summer, breaking 4:45 would be pretty cool.
Thanks for any useful input.
