Last night at the Mid-Michigan Megastar meet (100+ schools in attendance; really cool event), an 8th grader established new state records for both the 1600m and 3200m runs with 4:32 and 9:34 performances. The old records were 4:34 and 9:52.
In the 3200m, he had company for nearly 7 laps and then absolutely blasted away. It was unreal. Honestly, he must have closed somewhere in the low 60s. I will time the split and post the video when it becomes available.
Also worth mentioning - second place ended up under the old state record as well with a 9:47. He has run 2:02/4:35 this year.
