This isn’t surprising at all considering that Ryan is about 6’3, 270. He benches 380, squats 565, and deadlifts 605 nowadays. He looks more like The Mountain from Game of Thrones than a distance runner, so I am impressed that he can break still 27.

I remember a thread in Letsrun about the period when Ryan Hall was "being coached by God."
One very clever person said:
"That God, in spite of his knowledge and power, is still a very bad running coach."
To continue this theme....
God gave Ryan Hall the talent, focus and opportunity to achieve greatness as a distance runner.
Yet, once that career was over God saw fit to convert Ryan Hall into a low grade meat head.
With this move God managed to turn both distance running and Ryan Hall into ridiculous jokes.
What is to be learnt from all this?
In addition to being a really bad running coach, is God also really bad at PR?

Sorry, but he just looks unhealthy. Muscle Milk addiction is killing him.
Occasional MM here and there is fine, but drinking it night and day and making pancakes out of it is going to takes its toll.

I think he looks better than his marathoning days.
I wouldn’t date him then. Definitely would now (if Sara weren’t around of course)

Any guy would be lucky to have you
It is better to be a has been than a never was. It is far worse to see someone clearly past their prime continuing to self promote and run terrible times. Some people know when to quit, and it's not like he is unhealthy (he had a bunch of injuries and health issues when he left his shoes on the roads). He figured out that marathon training isn't the best thing for a person's body. Props to him for setting new goals in life.
At first I was thinking, that's nice. Ryan Hall is about the level of second or third man on my college XC team years ago. Then I saw 5K. Oh well. Father time always wins.

I think that we need pics of you in order to tell if Ryan would date you (if Sara weren't around of course).
Guys, I'm sure he could run faster than that even on no training at his current weight. This is part of some "virtual 5k" race promotion and he probably just wanted to run a time that would be attainable for many of the other participants.
I read that as 5 mile! LOL

When I can do no better than 25 or 26 5K, I will say it is due to a promotion activity.

Exactly right. Do you want a runner challenging the masses to do their own virtual 5k and compare to a 16:58 5k or a 25:58 5k? Regular people can beat 25:58, therefore more hobby joggers will probably be motivated to try and "beat Ryan's time".
Personally I don't know how he does it (paycheck must be really good) by playing that act of being so mediocre like that. Not many former world class runners could do a fake 5k that slow and act serious about it like this.

When I read the thread title, my brain automatically substituted 8k. I clicked on the thread thinking "yeah, that seems decent for a guy with massive talent who now just jogs and lifts for fitness."
I didnt realize I misread it until I watched the video.
Me too.
But obviously he was goofing around. I gotta figure even with minimal running he'd be sub 17 at worst.
I would love to know what he can actually do. You would think sub 17, no big deal for him....but 50+ pounds is a lot and if he's not running then I'm not sure how easy that would be for him.
Would his all out 200m fresh now be any faster than that one?

Wait, so testosterone makes you get taller? That's amazing because the last time I saw him he was shorter than me and I'm barely 6'2".
lololol Ryan Hall is maybe 5'9" and you're clearly a moron. Wiki says he's 5'10" but I've lined up next to him and I promise he's not that tall.

I believe 5'10". When I saw him I guessed 5'11". He was skinny back then though.

Get a life
I remember there was a thread about Bob Kennedy who ran a slow 5k time a couple years ago, and the low lifes were making fun of him in a similar fashion to this thread.
I think being 30+ years old and still obsessed and hyper critical of other people's 5k times and weight says a lot about the pschycologically stunted posters in this thread.
I understand your life revolves around running, but not everyone's does anymore. Try to mature past the age of 15 years old.
