I am a high schooler now going into senior year. I just finished my state track meet on Friday and am starting to plan for my senior xc and track season training. I ran a PR of 10:18 at the South Dakota class B state track meet placing 5th with the winner running a 9:56. I ran my mile PR in the first split of this race (4:55, poorly paced Ik but that’s just how everyone went out) I previously ran a 5:04 as a PR in the 1600m so I am not very fast I am more of a 3200m/5k runner. I was injured in XC last season, and I also got anemia from low iron so my season completely fell apart but I started to lift after xc and put on about 15 lbs of mostly muscle and it really helped me feel better when running, especially in my knees which often hurt. However I still have sciatica in both legs which has been an ongoing battle for months now. I planned to take a week off from running and start on the first Monday in June. I previously ran a peak mileage of 56 miles back to back for offseason xc training last year but I was injured. I do some tempo and easier track sessions with more rest and a bit slower pace still in the offseason so I don’t only run mileage. My week would consist of a tempo run, a fartlek of some sort, a interval workout, a long run, and 3 easy days. This may sound like a lot but the tempo run and fartlek are not ran at full effort and the interval training starts fairly easy and increases slowly in difficulty as the offseason progresses. The long run will start at 60 min and build 5 min a week up to an hour and a half. I was planning to start at 30 miles and peak at about 60 increasing about 4 miles a week. I also will incorporate off weeks. Ex. 30-34-38-42-30-46-50-54-30-58-62-30 (12 weeks of offseason training) I will cut mileage by about 10% when the season starts and as state approaches I will cut another 10% and keep lowering a bit more after that until state. Just wondering what other people think of this. Keep in mind I will be full body strength training 3 days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday). My goal time in 5k is 16:30 which would hopefully place me at least top 3 in state.
