Yeah, we need a government.
"But who will build the rooooooaaads?" (libs actually think this)
But who will funnel money from the little people to me?

I'd be glad to build roads. Then if your house only had frontage on my road, I'd charge 90% of the value of your home if you ever wanted a firetruck to be allowed to get to your house.

No thanks.

Exactly. That's the issue with privatizing all road construction/ownership. Whoever owns the one or two roads that serve your home would have an incredible amount of leverage over you.
Privatization makes sense for highways where multiple routes exist and there can be somewhat of a competitive market, but it makes sense for government to build and own local roads.

I'm an Anarcho-capitalist, so I'm no fan of the current form of our government...but even I would admit that a (much smaller, much less invasive) government is needed.
I'd happily pay taxes for infrastructure of cities (roads, water lines, traffic signs, bridges, etc.), police and fire, courts, and national DEFENSE (not the world-police that our current military is playing), among a few other, very minor departments.
Everything else, from health care to education to parks, would be taken care of by the private sector.
The power of the federal government would be completely slashed making the president merely a symbolic office.
Local government would have the most power (villages, towns, and cities first...then counties....then state...then federal).
That form, I think, would be the most beneficial to the most amount of people and would cut the head off of our huge, impotent government as it currently stands.

Great. I'll take that deal. Then I'll shoot you and take my money back.
Go live in some sh!thole 3rd world country where the government collapsed because it couldn't protect it's own citizens. After you've been there for awhile, and if you're still alive, you can answer your own question and let us know.
You aren’t an ancap
The government harasses me by inhibiting my self-government
Not really, unchecked capitalism over a long time frame will just result in a bunch of massive monopolies and the vast majority of people with almost nothing. That is the natural state of trade games played out over long enough periods of time.
Anarcho-capitalist? Does that make you the hippest coolest Libertarian? All that stuff. We tried it. It was the 19th Century. Unregulated free-markets is a dream idea that does not work. Booms, busts, starvation, monopolist corporations. The natural state of human nature without government control is Czars and Serfs.
Free reign capitalism has not worked in the past. The gilded age was a time when the huge majority of people worked very hard for very little. The quality of life for the average American was low.
Free reign companies in the past have had absolutely no qualms about destroying our environment for profits. There are so many examples of this through the country such as the destruction of lake erie, love canal, Ohio river fire, etc.
In uncontrolled capitalism, drive for profit, will always trump motivation to serve the community. And please don't for a moment think they are the same. They so often conflict.
Somalia did well without a government.
+1
