Where does Colin Jackson rank all time?

I would rank them as following:

1. Allen Johnson - Olympic Gold, Olympic Record, ran 12.92 TWICE, dominates the list of top times, several World Championship titles, indoors and out. Top ranked hurdler almost every year (or a close second) for the past 8 years.

2. Renaldo Nehemiah - was way ahead of his time. Brought the WR down from 13.1x all the way to 12.93 in a matter of weeks. Dominated his competition. Missed out on the Olympics where he almost certainly would've won. Smoooooooth form, so graceful. Unfortunately he ended his career early for Pro Football.

3. Colin Jackson - Indoor and Outdoor WR holder, undefeated year in 1994, dominates indoor all-time list, set the WR in the WC, has had a few off years, and i'm not a fan of his, but i have to admit he deserves a decent ranking. Not enough times under 13.00 to move past Nehemiah, in my opinion.

T4. Roger Kingdom - current co-holder of the US Record with AJ, two-time Oly Gold Medalist, former Olympic Record Holder.

T4. Greg Foster - won 3 WC titles, over a span of 8 years(!), was very consistent over a long period of time.

hey - cool thread, nice to think about other great athletes other than 5000m > Marathon runners.

My opinion is that it is hard to go past Roger Kingdom as the number 1 all time. I base this solely on the fact that he won back to back Olympics, and this is inconceivably hard to do. No matter what any athlete says, the Olympics are the absolute pinnacle of sport, especially track and field. If you were to ask Colin Jackson if he would trade his World Record for an Olympic gold, theres no doubt what he would do. By also breaking the world record, and simultaneously being the Olympic champ and WR holder, Kingdom joins athletes Peter Snell and Haille Gebrasallasie as arguably the greatest in their events EVER. I think its clearly AJ in second. Three world title and an Olympic gold, versus 2 worlds and the WR. But its worth noting that AJ ran within 1/100th in the World Champs FINAL, and a sprint WR is dependant on especially weather, and fractions more or less of wind make it so touch and go. Nehemiah definetly a clear fourth, but whether unfortunate or not has has no championships to fall back on. Dont discount Greg Fosters two World Champs, and also Rod Milburn was a revolutionary hurdler.

I'll put the case for Colin Jackson. You guys seem to ignore European and commonwealth medals - they mean a lot over here. I also think he should get extra points for longevity - ranked in the top 10 in the world every since 1986! (and ranked first 1992/93/94).

I'm confused as to what you mean here. If you're talking about the WR, he was .02 off the WR with his 12.93 in the WC's, not .01. Perhaps you meant .01 off of his PR/American record(12.92), or you were pointing out that he was .01 off of Kingdom's old WR(also 12.92).

If you were willing to go back a little further, Harrison Dillard and Lee Calhoum belong on this list, too

I think my whole point was he ran so incredibly close to the WR in a major championship race, which, doesnt happen so often. And when it does, should be given credit.

I simply requested clarification. You seemed to view it as a personal attack and got all defensive.

I'm on your side, I totally think AJ is awesome and the fact that he ran so close to the WR in the WC's (and ran a 12.95 in the Olympics!), that that definitely gives him some extra "points".
