Not in the sprint community. Here, he is seen as the latest in an annual succession of interesting high school athletes, and no more.
Actually less—because he’s white, his 100m upside is seen as limited, among the mostly black sprint community (yes I speak for everyone?).
But he is getting more serious attention as a sprinter than he would have gotten before the likes of CL and Guliyev, much like Tortu.
His prospects are seen as best in the LJ and the 200, because he’s white and “that’s where whites can be good”.
And history bears that out in the 200: Mennea, CL, Guliyev. Yes I know, Mennea, Wells, CL, Osovnikar, Borzov, Hary, now Guliyev, Erasmus, and Tortu.
Just tellin’ it like it is seen here in the sprint community. My personal belief is equivocal: like other HS standouts, we will see. Good luck to him
