It's around 30%, Coevett. You know it.

Woahhh,,massive difference there that completely negates my argument.
At least you remembered not to instantly change handles to Spade Detector and throw in 'you're a compulsive liar' tirade. You surely are rekrunner too.
Anyway, why is nobody talking about the actual race, and why no official Shanghai thread?

a) Too disappointing.
b) There is an official Shanghai thread (including talking about this 5000).
Lol -- one of more curious things I find here is when a few posters like you attempt to guess who's "attacking" them under various handles, as if there could only be 1 or 2 such posters. I don't really much care about Kenyan population growth as a factor of performance, as that doesn't seem so relevant when "the money dried up on the track". If I did care more, I'd take it in a few different directions than just haggling over 50% versus 30%. For example, total Kenyan population seems too broad, since talent is known to be concentrated across a few tribes and sub-tribes. For example, it might be more interesting to track Kalenjin and Nandi population growth. I might also compare it to other countries growth, like India (~17-25%), to see if trends between population and performance exist elsewhere. But if you want to know, quick calculations from Google show 50% per decade is rather high, but not excessively so, and 30% is low, at least for previous decades, but not far off, especially in the last decade: 1980-1990: 44% 1990-2000: 34.4% 2000-2010: 31.5% 2010-present: 26% (not full decade)

Great race, great finish! But would’ve liked to see a sub 13.

Dude, as predicted after Jakob's inroads last season, the powers that be will be doing all they can to allow the Africans to get away with murder PED wise in order to keep things the way "they should be", along with their continued influx of third worlders into Western nations ONLY. The politics are too deep for this site, and certainly too deep for many of the regulars here to grasp (they'll instinctively fire off the knee-jerk remarks they've been taught to use - while never being insightful to ask just who has taught them to think and believe negatively against their own people).
You'll see ridiculous performances - especially in the distance events - by the anointed. It's going to be as spurious as the PED heyday ruled by KB, Geb, and the rest. It'll be a long time before things are cleaned up. People are trying to clean up the sport, but in the end they're up against nation wrecking monsters.

You are right, but it's enough to have a serious impact if it makes them 20 seconds faster.
That's about 2,6%. Can drugs do this? Absolutely. Can drugs still do it, when the use is limited via testing/ABP? I don't know.
Agreed.
We'll get closer to the answer of your last question if the Kenyans slow down now, and the Ethiopians don't.
Currently:
- all sub-12:40 are from the EPO/pre-ABP era
- only one sub-12:45 came in the 10 years of the ABP era
- that one sub-12:45 was from a country with very poor testing, and was drafted for some 4600 m
- of the 29 sub-12:50, only 9 were in the ABP era
- 0 sub-12:50 between 2013 and 2017
- last Kenyan sub-12:50 was in 2012, at the height of the IAAF corruption, and before serious testing started in Kenya
- all 3 sub-12:50 post-Diack are from Ethiopia with still very poor testing
Wow, so many coincidences.
Off season testing throughout E. Africa, especially Ethiopia and Kenya is in fact literally non-existent. With the ingrained corruption in those countries coupled with politics that have aided E. African drug cheats for three decades the sport is going to collapse. Good. We can have the brainwashed blame it on racism. Oh, it's based on racism alright. But it isn't racism from Europeans or even the Africans. It's from those that claim to be the most tolerant, above it all. In the end their behavior created this mess.

The only thing STACKED here is the cocktail of drugs these guys have to consume to get under 13 minutes.
Best post in the thread. These are the people who are ALLOWED to cheat. Including the transplant who's allowed to compete as an "American" and allowed to cheat in order for certain folks to point to the "benefits" of third world immigration, like gaining distance runners. It's ludicrous. Just like those who believe these truths are outrageous hate speech.

Anyway, this race figures to be a good one. It’ll probably be paced through 3k in a typical 7:45-7:50 and then slow a bit in the 4th k, unless Cheptegei takes it on from 2k out. I think Kejelcha will get the lead at 4k and try to hold it to the tape while turning the screws a la Farah, and until Barega shows he’s in the kind of form we saw in Brussels last year I’m inclined to think he’ll succeed.
1. Kejelcha 12:53
2. Cheptegei 12:54
3. Gebrhiwet 12:56
4. Barega 12:57
5. Chelimo 13:00
Also a few really young Ethiopian guys with 13:0x PRs who could break through in class here.
I don't think it will be that fast - I don't get my hopes up on DL 5000m races producing fast times these days, as there is usually maybe 1 fast one a year. Here are my shot-in-the-dark picks:
Kejelcha 13:03
Gebrhiwet
Chelimo
Barega
Cheptegei
Mead at whatever place in 13:1x
I didn’t do too bad other than being wrong about Chelimo sucking. Surprised so many thought it would be 12:50 or faster.
