HE (and his coach) should be ashamed for the shenanigans he pulled. I couldn’t care less about the meet team or individual winners, just that the runners have some semblance of character.
Exactly this. It was a crappy move, and definitely a violation of the honest effort rule.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athletics_at_the_2016_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Men%27s_1500_metresThis thread honestly just sounds like liberals who have something against those who serve our country. Please stop disrespecting the troops. They deserve our undivided praise.
Please, please tell me you are not this stupid. When guys run 4 minutes in a championship 1500m and they are capable of 3:38, they do so because they believe that is their best chance to win the 1500m. The fact that you do not understand basic tactics makes me realize that I am arguing with a clueless person, not unlike having an argument with a 3 year old. Maybe you have expertly trolled me but I doubt it.

How does that wikipedia article support the incorrect claim that when guys run 4 minutes in a championship 1500m that are capable of running 3:30 then they have violated "the rule"?
I remember this, Ben was under instruction from Coach Mike Smith to sandbag the 5K to bolster his 10K regional qual time. Ben is a great kid and will be an outstanding junior officer, just sad that Army is being led by a man who lacks such integrity.
Smith has proven numerous times to lack the moral fiber that should be a prerequisite for a head coach at Army.
You are wrong. Coach Smith is doing an outstanding job as the Head Coach at Army and has a lot of integrity. He only made a mistake and forgot to scratch him out of the 5k before the scratch deadline. He contacted the meet officials after they did not allow him to scratch the athlete the day of and told them what the athlete was going to do and the meet referee approved it. No rules were broken. The IC4A is essentually a last chance meet now anyway, but rules were still followed based on it being a championship meet. I believe he actually could have dropped out of the 5k and it still would have been legal per the NCAA manual but he did finish the race.

If you think Mike Smith has a lot of integrity, maybe you should ask some of his former Bucknell teammates about the history that Mike Smith has with the Susquehanna River.
