Good time obviously but kind of an asterisked record considering Tuhoy ran 15:37i as a sophomore.

Sydney Masciarelli is coming off a basketball season where she averaged 16 points per game, and did little track training. According to a DyeStat article, during basketball "Masciarelli didn't stop running completely. On practice days, depending on her schedule, she would get in a 3-5 mile run before or after practice. She took game days off from running." Makes you wonder about her fitness level for running fast track times in the early track season.
Would love to see Katelyn Tuohy, Sydney Masciarelli, Katelynn Hart, Marlee Starliper, Tori Stacher and others in the Brooks 2-Mile, but Tuohy is apparently going to run a 5K for Olympic qualifying standard.
At some point, she will turn her attention solely to running. When that happens, she's going to be amazing.

they said that about Lucas Verzbicas too.
they said that about Gwen Jorgenson too.
She will have an interesting college choice it looks like she can be a solid college hoopster - as a soph she was one of two strong players on her team, the other was a senior who will go on to play at Wake Forest. Do you try to be an elite runner, or play on a power 5 hoops team? Tough choice. Will be great to watch as her running talent is not going to disappear, and she can keep improving in basketball as she takes on a bigger role for her team. For perspective , the basketball program is excellent at her school and they play often against some of the best schools in New England. The running program is low key, so she has to enter some open meets to get real competition - the running coach, however, seems to be quite good and finds ways to keep her both in the team, and challenged outside the normal schedule.
Michael Stember faced a similar choice at Jesuit High School. I believe he played basketball as a freshman and sophomore and did not run cross country. Someone (his coach? the principal of the school?) pulled him aside and said, "you are a good basketball player but if you devote yourself to running year round, you have it in you to be an Olympian."
Someone could say the same thing to Masciarelli.
Actually Masciarelli is entered in the 5k and the two mile at NBNO.... Katelyn Tuohy will be there too..which event has not been decided...so will Kelsey Chmiel among others....

Why wouldn't it be it's a prep school: as are many NE boarding schools that have become landing spots for these would-be Div. 1 qualifiers coming from out-of-town.
The question for any female 5k phenom is what does she do at 20yo with ten extra lbs on her frame?
As for what to choose Bb or distance for a lithe white girl? Please there is no choice. Other than recreating I wouldn't even let my kid pick up a Bb. CC is dangerous (according to inj stats) but Bb is an invitation to a knee surgery, a sport girls should stay away from.

"They" did say that about LV. He ran a half of a season and then quit to return to triathlon before he could really show what he was capable of. He doesnt really work as a cautionary tale.
And "they" never said that about Gwen. Only Gwen said that about her. Very few of "them" thought she would be at the level she thought she would. And she wasnt totally without success. She ran a solid 5k, then kept hammering herself at the marathon.
Again, not a great example of a cautionary tale, since most people didnt think she was going to become a world beater.

An interesting look back at the new balance championship results from 2+ years ago and do a where are they now, especially on the girls side...new balance success is certainly no guarantee of future success or close to it.
is it too late to fix that massive heel strike? love the power she generates, but dont love the mechanics at all.

You left out the part about the horrific bike accident LV suffered that effectively ended his career in both sports. Those were two irrelevant cautionary tales.
You can always work on mechanics. She is just physically gifted. Extremely tall and lean. You can't coach genetics and she will reach her potential in due time. Until then it is better to fight over specialization that dusted careers of Mary Cain and is seemingly plaguing Katelyn Touhy. She seems to actually have a decent coach too. That is a rarity in prep track. And she doesn't even run or has never run club. I say congrats and can't wait to see next........

Cain and Tuohy had/have 2 of the best high school coaches in the country.

You are joking, right? You need to factor in success after high school and both of those coaches FAIL big time.

FYI Tuohy is still a junior in HS. How exactly does her coach fail ‘big time’?
Cain went through 3 different coaches. I don't know if you can blame her HS coach.
