https://imgur.com/uep1gj3You might have been better off running my XC race this weekend than on that track...
At least I showed up with spikes. Sorry, couldn't help it. In all honestly they did a great job squeegeeing the track and getting it in good condition to race on.
My heat of the 1500 got out decently through 300 in 46.06 but then slowed down a bit for the next 400 especially. We split a slow 64.40 for the next 400 to come through in 1:50.45 and things got pretty physical too. Coming through 800 I could tell it was slow and started to move to the outside to get around people. Really didn't get going until 500 to go though and moved to second at the bell 2:53.49 (63.04). Tried pretty hard to get on the leaders shoulder down the backstretch and up until 100 to go but couldn't quite get there. Last 80 meters was pretty tough and while I nipped the leader at the line 2 other guys moved past me before that so I ended up 3rd in 3:53.16 (59.68). All in all a decent opener and I felt very smooth through 1100 and even the first bit of the last lap. Just need to get accustomed to making moves at that speed again because I couldn't find another gear to save my life the last 100, which was frustrating. Wanted to either break 3:50 or close fast and win, so I didn't accomplish either of those. However, it wasn't a total loss either and I'm not walking away feeling like I'm in much worse shape than I thought so that's good.
