He has the physique of an average DI male collegiate distance runner in my opinion

Points taken, but I consider Scott’s longevity, race volume and range plus a healthy dose of American bias for “discounting” the Brits’ medals.

That's right, kids. We all knew Jones set the WR at Chicago one October, but we needed to wait until Runner magazine came out a few months later to get a decent photo.
And you all wet your pants if someone posts a stream that times out on you now and then.

How did they maintain their amazing body composition ?
The entire premise of your question is wrong. His body composition is "no fat, very little muscle." Moreover, I doubt he used his body in a way that would maximize what little muscle mass he had for strength. So, in conclusion, he was tiny and he was weak for his tiny size.
what are you talking about? wrote:
Steve Jones was about 140 ibs and 5'10 in his running prime. As far as his diet in his prime, he was a big fan of Mars bars, biscuits(basically cookies Brits have with their teat) and diet coke.
Tells you that my college coach was right "Any young buck running over 80 miles per week, can eat $hit on a stick!!. It doesn't matter! You are going to burn it off!!"

That pic is from the next year when he missed the record.

You would be wrong. Jones often had to lift heavy stuff and mentioned that holding the WR for the Marathon did not exempt him from doing so.
Likely this was part of the reason why he bought his way out of his RAF contract.
Fair enough. What criteria do you use to discount the British Steves' world records? Seven between the two of them at 1500m and mile...

I know most of you don't mind how you look as long as you are running fast times but won't it be better to look strong and also run fast ?
I have recently started doing around 70 miles a week and already looking like a grasshopper . I am worried i'll end up looking like a stick if i do 100 miles . Please help
You have to kidding....Steve was SMALL in person.
Rod Dixon on the other hand....

These pics did make me miss my American Eagles though. I loved those flats!

American Eagle? Why do these posts make you think of them?
When I was a junior athlete, 6 feet tall and 138 pounds, I met Steve Jones at world cross or cinque mulini, can’t remember which. He wasn’t running but he was there watching and hanging out. I felt like a flabby giant next to his diminutive, gaunt, and cut from steel looking face and frame.

World Cup was not the de facto worlds championship. It was it's own event.
