After Bolt who is the most popular runner all around the world? Just checked Ronaldo has the highest fan following on insta at 129M. BOLT has less than 10M. Who's after Bolt?

Pretty sure it's Mo Farah, then Kipchoge, followed by Jakob closing very, very fast. If Jakob medals this year at Doha he'll be number 1, if he wins gold and breaks a WR next year, he'll be bigger than Bolt was.
An interesting question would be who is the least biggest name relative to their achievements or their status should be? There's probably quite a few candidates, but Tim might be up there. It used to be that every schoolkid on the planet would know who the best miler in the world was, and I doubt if virtually anybody outside athletics fans would know who Tim is.

Tim who?
Allyson Felix?
Caster Semenya, every non-runner I know have asked me about 'her'.
Alan MF Webb
Farah, Kipchoge, Felix, or Semenya. The up-and-comers are McLaughlin, Lyles, and Duplantis.
I agree that Cheruiyot is probably the most underrated. However, I seriously doubt that J Ingebrigtsen will ever be a bigger name than Bolt, even if he wins an Olympic gold and sets a world record, simply because no one cares about the 1500. The average person's attention span probably lasts around 10 seconds, perfect for watching the 100m, but rendering the 1500 far too long for anyone to give a cr@p about.
Bolling is the up and comer.
If Ingebrigtsen markets himself well, he can be a big name.
I remember my girl's HS Cross team loving Ritz- he was a couple years older than they were- no Instagram back then, no Facebook- they talked about him, had pictures of him, etc
I think definitely Justin Gatlin, then Allyson Felix, then Kipchoge.
Why don't start the tread under your own user name, Coevett? There is nothing to be ashamed of. Well, not really.
To answer your question even if I believe the methodology is flawed since it is easy to buy followers, Shalane Flanagan and Sydney McLaughlin have twice as many followers as @jakobing. Allyson Felix has much more than that.
On the male side, just checking a few sprinters, Justin Gatlin, André de Grasse, Yohan Blake and Asafa Powell all have more followers than Ingebritsen.
And what is a "runner" for you? Kilian Jornet has 755K followers compared to the (already impressive) 173K followers of Jakob Ingebritsen.
Usain Bolt #1
Mo Farah #2
Everyone else
Definitely Sir Mo Farah

I honestly didn't start this thread, although when replying to it, I knew some might think so because of the OP's handle of 'amateur runner' and I'd posted yesterday on that subject.

I agree that there are 0 regular people who don't follow running who know Tim and Eli. There have to be some who are aware of Farah but I say Carl Lewis is right up there. I have heard his name used by people who have never seen track on TV or otherwise.
Based on just social media fan runners are nowhere near the football players. Even professional wrestlers (Wwe) have more fan following
I think Mondo Duplantis could really blow up. Pole vault is something any sane person could watch and be amazed at. He has a person working on a documentary of him that could probably do really well.
It'd be interesting to see how Matthew Boling does in college. An American sprinter could probably get super popular if he continues to improve.
If Drew Hunter gets to a top level and runs at the Olympics I don't see why he couldn't become a popular runner. People consider him a Lebron James of running and Tinman Elite is growing in popularity.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Jakob Ingebrigtsen has a 1989 Ferrari 348 GTB and he's just put in paperwork to upgrade it
