I'm curious what I said about kipchoge. It's just way too hot I think for 6 hours . He wouldn't be motivated to go that long.
But would be interesting to just throw 10 sub 2:08 guys in this with no training and see how it goes. HOKA or some other company could do that for about $100,000. 20k guaranteed and I think some guys would give it a go
What most people don't get is that a 100k is sooo much longer than a Marathon. For Kipchoge that would be 3 times as long. That is a total different thing. There is a reason why not many top Marathoners have even tried an ultra. Alberto Salazar was one of them.
If you would throw 10 2:08 runners in a 100k race I would think 2 or 3 would survive and they might not do as good as people think. 100k is a well contested distance world wide (not in the US), so I am sure some top marathoners have thought about it and decided that is not there thing.
I think 5:47s for 50 miles is harder than 5:57s for 62 miles. Jim started running 5:35s for the middle of the race, so clearly he had the 50mi in mind as a priority at that point, probably due to the increasing temperatures.
To say that Jim can't hand the final 20k is laughable. He's crushed a half dozen 100k trail races and has only lost once, in his debut at the world champs.
Well he's about to lose his second.

I'm purely disappointed that this 100k world record attempt felt short of what it was supposed to be. Is the 50 mile record cool? Absolutely. Was Jim's running and mental strength amazing? Absolutely. Was it the 100k WR chase that they advertised? Depends on if you consider starting the last 20km with a walk what was intended. I was just looking for him to break 6, as this was their main goal. Breaking the 50 mile otw to the 100k record was what, I believe, everyone was cheering for.
true, 100k was the goal. but if you order cake and you get cookies instead, are you going to reject the cookies and not eat anything?
clearly nobody had it today to get the 100k world record. that reminds me of berlin marathon 2017 when it was one of the deepest fields ever and it was a marathon world record attempt. yeah they didnt make the world record but adola and kipchoge battled to the end and it was still a great race despite the fact nobody had it in them to get the wr that day
+1 to Reed.

Because people keep saying this but in reality Jim's 100 km road PR is 7:05 I really wanted to see this race. Well, let's see, maybe he breaks 7:05 today. I doubt it.
I've personally experienced how hard the last part of a 100 km road race can be and I seriously doubt Jim would get within 10 minutes of WR pace - but I know how talented he is on fast trails, so I really really wanted to be proven wrong. I am disappointed he didn't show me what he can do.

No, but I'm going to be disappointed I didn't get my cake. Which is the same way I am currently. Content with what I received but wishing for what I wanted.

I wouldn't be surprised if he hops in another road 100k before olympic trials...
hes got a good amount of time left before he starts his marathon training block and it might be beneficial to do a couple quicker road ultras first before really buckling down and going for the marathon

Now this is what I'm talking about. I would love to see this happen.
According to their tracker, Jim hasn't moved for a long time.
Are we quite sure he's actually gonna finish this thing?
The problem is that this sub 6 hour goal was pretty much an impossible goal for Jim. Yes I know that he likes these lofty goals but that does not mean it actually happens.
Back to the action:
Hideaki Yamauchi is on the way to a new PR around 6:15
Patrick Reagon is on his way to a new PR around 6:27
Toshiki Takata is on the way to a new PR? around 6:45
Sabrina Little is on her way to a new PR around 7:35

I hope so! I really want to see Jim do 100K, that's why I was so hyped for this one.

They are showing him run now.

Why would they be so silly? A stupid thing to say for a rep of LR. Who compares a half marathon guy racing a marathon with no marathon training?
No one gives a sh1t about this race lol!
If Jim DNF's I will lol harder than I've ever lol'ed before.
Some of these relay girls are actually kinda hot. The one bright spot of this race.

When you see how relatively little success the South Africans have had at 100K, not much longer than Comrades, it’s no surprise that there is little crossover between marathons & ultras. Likewise 100K champions often struggle at Comrades.
None of the South Africans have foregone their goal race , the Comrades, in favour of 100km champs. Pick the best flat 100km runners there and let them train for a flat 100km race, give them the same money0 and lets see
One more thing on this: I totally understand that Jim went for the 50 mile (it was within reach, the 100 km was not + less time in the heat + more publicity). I'm just bummed that they kind of destroyed the 100 km race by adding a 50 mile timing mat. (Hoka? Jim himself? Who came up with this idea?)

It's ok, the posters of LR have already taken away any credibility this board has. Have you not read anything on this thread? That's all people are doing comparing marathoners to ultra runners. The whole argument on here is people saying Kipchoge and any elite marathoner would crush this race.
