If he surges and throws down now to get the 50 mile record, he could be in for a major sufferfest the remaining 12 miles.

I think we've been spoiled by how easy Eliud makes it look. Jim is showing how unglamorous these distance races can be. Even Jim's pacer was throwing up and that was 30 miles ago!
Yeah, I've been gone for the last 2 hours or so. Amazing, his form is for the most part still intact.
They broke away just as Yamauchi was stopping to pee!
They cut it off before he did it, but Yamauchi just made a litte pit stop.

No no no ! Dig down Walms !!’ USA USA USA
He's done. Disappointing.
New world record unofficially!
lol so this guy "runs" 50 miles but now literally has to walk a bunch for the record to count? what
35 year old 50 mile record now surpassed. Tip of the hat to Bruce Fordyce who I assume didn't have ''rockets' on his feet. Jim got it by what? 14 seconds?

I agree it's disappointing. The 100K WR is much more prestigious than the 50M. (Almost) No one tries 50M these days. He probably realized either around 30 miles or even before the race that he was never going to break the 100K WR.
Now he's walking, nice.

He just set the 50 mile world record how is that disappointing
yeah hes not going to set 100k but two world records in one race is a tall order
Why can’t he just stop now?

because the longest record anyone cares about is the mary...
So, are people actually gonna watch a stream of this guy walking for 20K???
clown world
Inspiring. That was very cool to watch. Great job, Jim. Thank you, letsrun and hoka. I love ultras because of the adventure, and even though Jim was running down a paved bike path, there was definitely still some adventure today. Great stuff.
Not disappointed at all. There are plenty of 100k events to do later but many thought Fordyce's record was untouchable....and this was on a hot day.
Congrats, Jim! I don’t envy you this next 12 miles.

Congrats to Jim.
Nope no carbon for Bruce. Ran in Nike Vendetta TC at the point I believe.

Lol. Were you actually cheering against him? You must be a fun person to hang out with.
