Why would Farah need that much cash and jewelry on hand? It is like he needed to trade them for some expensive supplements.

Mo Farah says someone stole money & jewelry from his bag while he was staying at Haile G's hotel in Ethiopia
Err, theft happens all the time, even to celebs, even in 1st world locales... Ask Kim Kardashian
This shows why you need Insurance.

+1. Mohamed basically has a "USA" attitude toward theft (maybe from his years with Nike there), thinking that society/police are supposed to stop/deter/investigate it.
The modern European view is just to shoulder-shrug and accept it as part of life. Thieves are people too. They have rights just like the rest of us.
What is interesting is the Haile Resort is located in Hawassa. That is a good three hour drive from Addis not has high altitude and no track. WTF , also the pool has NO heat when I was there.

He wasn't there for the training environment.
Not to mention, this was a couple weeks ago if I remember correctly. Odd he's still hanging on to it.
And really, like this is any shock to him? A dude with a lot of money had some items stolen while in Africa? Imagine that?
Can't he just buy a new watch and move on? Surely he can afford one. You'd think any watch company would jump on the opportunity to just give him one to wear everyday. The whole thing seems weird to me.. either Mo is a total baby and needs to grow up.. or he's a total baby and needs to grow up.
Why wouldn’t he lock it up or put it in a safe? Take some responsibility Mo. You are coming off as a spoiled brat. Don’t publicize the theft. Go buy another watch or whatever.
What an amazing story.
Thanks Brah.

A bank robber has been allowed to claim the cost of a pistol used in a hold-up as a legitimate business expense.
A Dutch court has permitted the 46-year-old man to set the EUR2000 ($3400) cost of the gun against his gross proceeds of EUR6750, gained during his raid on a bank in the southern town of Chaam. The judge at Breda Criminal Court duly reduced his fine by the same amount.
In a timely boost for the Netherlands' image as a bastion of liberal extremism a spokesman for the Dutch prosecutors' service said the judge had followed sound legal precedents on the confiscation of criminal assets.
Leendert De Lange said: "You can compare criminal acts to normal business activities, where you must invest to make profits, and thus you have costs." Thus drug dealers would be within their rights to claim the cost of a car used to ferry those drugs around, he said.
However, Mr De Lange scoffed at the hypothetical example of a drugs dealer claiming his Ferrari against the proceeds of his crimes. "No, he would have to prove that he needed the car to transport the drugs around, and I hardly think he would transport them in a Ferrari," he said.
Dutch judges also insist on receipts, invoices or other forms of proof when calculating how much to confiscate from convicted criminals, Mr De Lange said. "You can't just tell the judge you spent EUR10,000, without any proof."
Gerard Sta, national director of the Office of Criminal Assets, told the Dutch newspaper De Standaard of other strict conditions: a criminal's costs must be directly related to the crime, and not just day-to-day expenses. "A second condition is that the criminal offence must be carried out," Mr Sta said.
Mr De Lange said: "The idea is that crime does not pay, but you are allowed to claim your expenses."

Gooble gobble USA
???
And people think Mo Drama is good for this sport?
Wonder if Haile gave Mo a deal on the room? If he did and Mo called him out like this, that's not cool. If Haile didn't give him a discount, I wonder if Mo is extracting a pound of bad publicity.

Not to mention a hotel is typically not responsible for lost or stolen items here in the US. It is posted in rooms and what not. Not sure why he would think it would be different in Ethiopia.
Oh, thought you meant his 'stuff'.

Really hard to take Mo's side on this. Haile is one of the most respected personalities in the history of running. Mo's handling of this grievances have been really childish.
Meta point: If someone is unethical in some areas of life, it's reasonable to think he is in other parts of life.
