A comment on Burfoot’s view

I did not read the Amby article or the associated thread because I'm unable to differentiate with the variations the modern world wants to attach and distinguish with various gender decriptions, identifications, and roles. Back in the day when John Wayne was still making Westerns and America was Great these type of mind muddles did not cloud the weather of fluidity of thought. For the record, I don't believe Jamin is attracted to liberal women unless they look good in Ukrainian made bikinis.

Think it through: WHY DO WE HAVE A FEMALE CATEGORY?

Your argument would be fine if there was just one category called "human sport."

Caster would be left alone in peace in this scenario, BUT she would also never sniff the Olympics, because she is only as fast as a regional-class HS boy.

Because we want women/girls to participate in sport, we have created the female category to give them a space to play.

A space that is NOT AS COMPETITIVE as male sport, due to female physical limitations.

When unfortunate souls like Semenya, Niyonsaba etc are born with male characteristics that imbue them with quasi-male athleticism, they forfeit their ability to participate in the female category. Frustrating for them, but fair to the other 99.9999999% of "fully-female" females.

It is mind boggling that people find this concept hard to grasp.

He's not saying they can't compete because they're good. He's saying they can't compete in a restricted category of sports (women's sports) that exists specifically in order to give a fair shot to people who, BECAUSE OF THEIR LOW TESTOSTERONE, would otherwise not have any real opportunity to compete in sports. The key here is that high T isn't just some random characteristic among many that can make an athlete good. It's the primary (and perhaps only) reason that men are better at (most) sports than women. If any high-T women don't want to take medication to change their hormones, which I completely understand, then they're free to compete against men.

And what do you think about weight divisions in boxing, wrestling, and other related sports? Under your premise, shouldn't there be just one division?

If they start testing all women for testosterone, they will find some women with complete androgen insensitivity syndrome and very typical female appearance, including large breasts. They have high levels of testosterone but are completely insensitive to the effects of the hormone, that is why they can be XY with testes but still have large breasts and a vagina.

Semenya would appear to have partial androgen insensitivity syndrome. There are any number of gradations and variations with over a hundred different specific genetic anomalies producing this end result.

I think the well-meaning but bigoted people going down this rabbit hole don't appear to understand the underlying genetics and physiology.

So please enlighten us with your solution. Seriously, with respect: what is your answer to this situation?

I can't stand when people start tossing around the "bigot" word at people who are logically and respectfully trying to deal with a complex situation.

1. Do you think there is a "problem" at all? --or--Should anyone who identifies as female be able to compete in the female division without restriction?

2. If you think there is a "problem" and while acknowledging the "gradations and variations" of humanity--what is your solution?

Androgen insensitivity is specifically mentioned in the article as an exception under current rules and I don't see that he argues with that position at all.
