Who?
The OP is referring to the fact that Stinson took top American honors today at the Crescent City Classic in 29:10 by going out hard and hanging on. Here's what he said about the race to the local paper.
The local paper wrote:
“Today I knew would be an all-or-nothing race. There was nothing in between,” said Stinson, who knew he may be on the cusp of a top-finish that the race pays out. “I could go with those guys or sit back and run by myself, and I don’t go to races to do that.”
Stinson ran the fastest two-mile and 5k time he ever has within a long-distance race and hung with the second pack of runners up until the halfway mark.
“At 5k, I realized the top guys weren’t going to let up, and these guys knew that, but they also knew they maid out to five, so they never let me get comfortable,” he said. “They’re just a tiny bit fitter than me.
“But this really lived up to the hype.”

That's what I'm talking about, Stinson is a real man. Only pansies sit and kick. Real men take out hard and push it to the limit.

Come on. “Top American Honors” is not a real thing, any more than “American Collegiate Record” and similarly made-up honors are. He was 7th, and he did seemingly go out much faster than he could handle.

I understand Stinson’s criticism for his poor marathon pacing and he needs to figure that out ASAP. But this is a road 10k where prize money was only paid to the top 5 guys. It sounds like he put himself in the top 5 position for as long as possible and it’s a 10k so I’m not really sure people come back to you once their gone...at least not Kenya’n’s of that caliber. I say it’s a good tough run and shows he’s in good fitness...however I really hope he learned watching Fauble and Ward recently that the only way to run the marathon is even or negative split to reach your potential

Well considering the race paid him $1,000 for being the top American I would say it is a real thing

Yuki Kawauchi splits when he set his PB at the Seoul marathon in 2013:
:15:03 :30:07 :45:10 1:00:27 1:15:39 1:30:39 1:45:56 2:01:25 2:08:14
So America is not a real thing anymore? Got swallowed up by a new Super Sate? Countries no longer exist?

At least he didn't go home empty handed.
Stinson is still one of my favorite runners. Go big or go home! Next American to go sub 60 for the half. You'll see.
This race, and many others, used to get tons of guys who wanted to run fast?
Stinson showed while all the others are non-racing pusssies.
#STINSANTIY!!!
Where are the others??? wrote:

Crazy to think about, but Nenow still holds the American record for a road 10k. Set back in 1984 or 1985(depending on how anal you are with courses).

How is that a "disciple of stinson" set of splits? That's pretty darned even. Did you think 1:00:27 was his half split? Because it is the 20k split, so roughly 1k short of halfway. His half split would have been roughly 1:03:55 so a second half marathon of about 1:04:14. That is reasonably even splits.
Or look at it as 5k splits through 40k, ignoring the last roughly 2k for convenience:
15:03
15:04
15:03
15:17
15:12
15:00
15:17
15:29
He definitely had a slight fade, the 2nd 20k was 27 seconds slower than the first 20k, but nowhere near the blowups that Stinson has had in his handful of marathons. Yuki was average about 2 seconds per mile slower in the second half, it's not a blowup.
I think the point is that marathon splits shouldn't look like 800m splits. They should be close to even: either even splits or only a little fade or speed up. This isnt scientific, but it had the weight of a lot of anecdotal evidence to suggest it's the best way to run a marathon.
Keith Brantley ran 29 flat in almost 100 degrees, today was ideal conditions, that is sad.Have Parker boy go back to 1996 or 1989 and run that.He was just a little bit ahead of the woman's course record. It is sad when we are taking about some dude who ran mid 29s and finished almost 2 minutes behind the winning time. The road 10k is becoming a extinct event, at least in New Orleans.
Worse yet is Azalea Trail Run in Mobile. Joseph Kimani ran 27:04 and there was usually 20-30 guys, mostly US or UK, running sub 30.
This year 2 Kenyans broke 30.
Sad.

Do they still have that race?
