I have a very eclectic mix in my neighborhood due it gentrifying very rapidly over the past two decades. Some of the residents from back in the day do not talk to anyone. Before gentrification, it was a pretty dangerous neighborhood with a lot of gang activity during the crack epidemic in the 1990s. So, the old timers rightfully didn't trust anyone and kept to themselves. The old timers also are mostly lower/middle class and a lot of the most recent people to come into the neighborhood are quite wealthy with home prices now hitting $1 to $1.5 mil. I bought just before the neighborhood took off and only paid $275k. But the old timers mostly see me as being rich because they paid under $100k back in the 90s.
There are a bunch of younger families with toddlers who like to hang out. My kids are older. So, I do not spend any time with that group. Also, our zoned public school is terrible. Everyone sends their kids to magnet schools or private school.
I have to avoid the guy who lives across the street from me. He is a contractor and thinks that everyone in the neighborhood has to hire him anytime we need work done. I am going to do an addition soon. He did an addition for one of my neighbors. The work was decent enough, but I do not want to live across the street from someone who I am going to be looking to for warranty issues on construction.
