Hi,
I have been heart rate training for a half marathon. I worked out that the max heart for my age (54) should be 170 (208 -(0.7 x 54 (age)) and have been trying to train at or below 85% (or 145 beats).
I have the alarm on my watch set. When I get high I slow down. It doesn't seem to take much.
I have been training like this, running three days a week (3-6 miles) for three months. I have a chart but cannot work out how to insert it. However March average heart rate 139 at a very slow av pace of 12:37 (run walk) and In April the average heart rate was 144 and pace 12:47.
As you will see I am incredibly slow and not really getting any faster. I am also not seeming to reduce my av. Heart rate very much either.
My resting heart rate (measured by Fitbit) averages a healthy 51 BPM. I am getting plenty of sleep, good food and my stress levels have not changed.
I have completed half marathons and a half Ironman previously so I know that I have the endurance but I would like to get faster.
Does anybody have any advice? Am I doing something wrong or do I just need to be patient and my Av. Heart rate will fall and by speed will increase with time?
Cheers
David
