Why do you as American have such a weird UK fetish?
Anyway, as you know, doping during the 70s and 80s was rife in West Germany, US, France etc. Why would the UK be any different?
You conclude that the Ethiopians dope en masse because the Kenyans do, so be a bit consequence for a change.
There is no evidence that doping was rife in the UK in middle-distance running in the 70's and 80's. The UK is a separate country from West/Germany, which was directly involved in an ideological war with its divided other half. The fact that West Germany, despite having 3 x the population of the GDR, couldn't touch their neighbours on the track, suggests doping wasn't rife there either. I assume there is a doping problem in Ethiopia because the conditions which are causing endemic and proven doping in Kenya are present there too. Then again, I did read just today that doping is actually punished by a 3 year prison sentence there, so you never know - maybe that is the reason for the lack of doping positives. It would be rather funny, actually, if Ethiopians turned out to be the 'natural born runners', Bekele was the greatest clean runner in history, but that Kenyans can't break 3:35 or 13:15 without peds.
