I have had 4 stress fractures in the tibial bone a stress reaction below the knee within the last 12 months of my junior year of high school. Every time I give myself the proper time and get approval from doctors I almost immediately re fracture the same area and am out again. I have been through cycles of intense cross training (swimming and biking) so I could come back to the season in shape but I never get more than 3 weeks of good gradual build up before it is re fractures from one hard workout or race. Is it time to just take an extended break from running? Has anyone been through anything similar and how did you deal with it? My coach has never been injured ever in his life (even running 100mpw+ in college) and he is very new so he has no experience/advice.
