"Point is, mastering the elements at the Olympics has always been part of the story. The concern ahead of Tokyo is that it becomes THE story. You don’t want the Olympic marathon to be determined solely by who handles the heat the best; running ability needs to be the primary factor." - J. Gault
That's the weakest thing I've read today. It's the damn Olympics and you have more than enough years to train for the situation and surrounding as to which you will be competing. It's the perk of the Olympics, if it's going to be in Tokyo and expected to be hot, then USATF needs to do their part and have the trials in Florida or somewhere warm to make sure we bring the best team for that situation.
If the race is going to be in a cool climate, we need to have our trials in a climate that matches race day. It's not a time trial, that's what we have World Marathon Majors with pacers for. I want nothing more than unique outside variables that may not guarantee a Kipchoge victory. But it's not like Kipchoge and everyone else isn't aware of what the Olympic conditions are going to be and have plenty of time to train for it.
Can't wait to see who can handle the Tokyo heat and humidity the best. I'm sure Hansons will be doing extended stints in Florida as prep.
