Most sub-5 one mile guys on letsrun like to brag that they never were able to race sub-65 400m. If you're a sub-55 400m guy with less than 2.125 pounds per inch, you have significant room for improvement. What are your 400m & 800m personal bests? Note: most elite 1500m runners were 800m specialists as teenagers.
