Probably because kjlkj couldn't qualify for Boston.

Ok, so they both ran Dubai in 2:04-low 15 months ago. Tola 3rd, advantage Tola. Legese was 10th in Chicago in 2:08:41, Tola was 4th in New York in 2:08:30–advantage Tola. Then Legese posted the best result of either of them in the past 2 years to win Tokyo in 2:04:48 just 6 weeks ago and made their 2018 comparison much less meaningful.
9 days until London.
Appreciate your input Aussiestatman, and you’ll have plenty of chances to say “I told you so” if you stay tuned.
I think you overrate quick times that beat nobody else ranked in your top ten. Molla was very quick in his debut but let’s see him back that up in a major v better than Negasa and Mengstu, etc. For legese in Tokyo, he beat b. Karoki and Chumba dropped off

For me, right now, before London, I rank it this way:
Kipchoge
Kitata
Cherono
Leule Gebrselassie
Desisa
Farah
Geremew
Kipkemoi
Kipserem
Tola
With that, I think Leule, Farah, and Geremew are competing Sunday for 3rd to 5th. Then Tola, Wasihun, Kipsang, and Kiptum are up for 6th to 9th. Depending on those results, any of them could move up or down by next week.

Just out of curiosity, why would you have Farah as a solid top 3 marathon runner and not have Rupp in the top 10?
Top 10 non African
1. Suguru Osako
2. Galen Rupp
3. Yuta Shitara
4. Hirohito Inoue
5. Jake Robertson
6. The other Robertson
7-10. Some others Japanese runners

Did you forget some guy called Moen?
Farah is #3? Please.
Maybe put fat Bekele in there as well while you are at it.

a) I do believe Naert is also better than most of these.
b) Did you forget Inoue got destroyed by Ward & Fauble in Boston?

Rupp? Wasn’t top ten end of Dec by this site. Hasn’t run since.

I don’t have Sisay Lemma, Kenneth Kipkemoi, Tadese Tola, Mule Wasihun or Abraham Kiptum ranked top-10 either but most-all them would rank above Rupp.
If you have to ask this question you’re a fool. The marathon is a deeply competitive event, and there are a number of guys more competitive than Rupp. Mo probably ran in the most competitive races of the first half of ‘18 (3rd) and the 2nd half (1st). He only lost to my #1 & # 4, and beat #2, #5, #10—Galen himself, and multiple unranked runners who finished between he and Galen at Chicago.
Use the IAAF website, familiarize yourself with results, and maybe you won’t be so ignorant.

Youre an idiot and so are these rankings. Rupp won Chicago and so did Farah. Rupp ran Chicago 2018 ijnured and ran 2:06. Rupp WON Prague, while Farah was destroyed in London. So Farah is 3rd in the world and Rupp is not in the top 10? What?
Rupp destroyed Lemma 2-3 times already...Are you high?? Kipkemoi, Tola, Kiptum...none rank above Rupp. Only one that I would agree is Kipchoge.
Galen’s chicago won was 18 months ago and over 2.09

I really don't think time is all that matters. If all the marathons were on the same course with the same pacing then maybe.
They don't take a single top time that someone has run in a DL 5000 and proclaim that guy is the best do they? They use the guys that are winners.

Ward and Fauble probably make the list. Whether or not you think 2:09 is a fast time, they were top 10 in a major championship and both beat Japan's top guy on that day. Also you overrate Inoue I think.

You’re goddamn right I am!
2017 Chicago was a clown race. 2018 was a competitive major. Here are the average fastest recent times for the next 5 finishers from each race:
2017
2. A. Kirui 2:07:07
3. Kipyego 2:10:16
4. Lemma 2:04:08
5. Sambu* 2:28:07 @ Boston ‘18, omitted from average for being such a bad outlier
6. Matsumura 2:13:23
7. Chebii 2:11:00
2:09:10.8 average best time since 10/09/17
2018
2. Geremew 2:04:00
3. Osako 2:05:50
4. Kipkemoi 2:05:44 15:34
5. Rupp 2:06:07
6. G. Kirui 2:06:45
7. A. Kirui* 2:07:07 not included in average, just listed for kicks
2:05:41.2 average best time since 10/09/17
Ahhh, so basically youre saying any race that Rupp wins is a clown race? You're just including some "fast" times that are meaningless in the greater sense since they can only be set on fast, flat courses with a myiad of pacers...and not many do that. Did you forget that 2017 Chicago was not paced and had worse conditions? How the f can you compare the two?
No.
Like I did above, for example.
