I am a senior in high school and have been running since my sophomore year, I am going to run at a Division II school next year with a pretty solid program and am curious about what people think about jumping in mileage. My highest weekly mileage was around 45 which I hung around at for a few weeks this winter. During the track season I have backed off on mileage as the workouts become more intense and now usually sit at around 40 miles a week. I'm curious as to what I should be doing this summer to prepare for 8k and 10k races. I know that my mileage is very low but it seems as though I have lots of room for improvement. I obviously don't want to overdo the whole summer and wind up injured but I feel like I need to be doing higher volume to handle college workouts.
Here are my season bests (I should be running the 3200 in a week or so):
400: 54
800: 2:01
1600: 4:25
5k: 16:05
Thanks
