Are we seriously going to give Desisa a "pass" on this?
The dude literally tried to grab Cherono as he was about to be taken over.
We letting him off this easy???

He tried to ELBOW the guy is how I saw it. This, after blocking him.
Nah, he's the clean champ so he felt he had to even the field with the dirty Kenyans.
Of course. He's won Boston twice and gave his medal after the bombings. Destiny won in the end; but he comes off as a bit of an @$$hole. For some weird reason, he was screaming at Kamworor 2 years ago in the middle of the NYC Marathon.
I don't see this. He moves back and forth, yeah. His arms flail out at one point but it's BOTH arms -- I think he was just surprised by something, when I watched it the first time I thought he had suddenly gotten a cramp as he tried to accelerate. Gets a pass from me.

It was Wilson Kipsang he clashed with.

It did look like a combination of shaking out his arms and defending his space a bit as it looked like Cherono was starting to wander over and lean on him a bit.

What was it all about?
Doesn’t look like that to me either.
Seems like they are both tired and Cherono accidentally bumps into him. Desisa automatically puts out his arm to keep the spacing and prevent a fall.
No malice or anger from either of them. Just a simple “oops...look out!”
These guys run in groups a lot and are used to that sort of thing. They don’t seem too bothered by it.

He definitely had that split-second decision while in the delusional state of complete exhaustion to "grab" Cherono. It only lasted for a half a second though and he raced him straight-up all the way in. It was just a panic reflex of getting passed when he knew he had nothing left in the tank. Thankfully he didn't really grab him and impede him so I'd give him a break.
Watch the video closely.
His arms move and widen as he:
1. Passes the race official who is on his right hand side. The first in a row of race officials directing runners to finish on the right or left.
2. Runs across the first of the white painted cross walk lines on the street.
In his fatigue, seems like he might have thought the white painted lines were the finish lines, raises his arms as if he is signifying victory, realizes his mistake, puts his arms back down and tries to respond to Cherono.
He did the same thing with Kipsang in NY and also lost. I think it is just his way of trying to clear a path and get his competitor out of his way. Cherono sat on Desisa for a while and Desisa was probably frustrated that Cherono would just run next to him.
Why the excuses? Is it because he gave his medal to the city? He’s done it more than once.

That's what I saw.
I wish road races did a better job of preparing for possible sprint finishes (may also be the athletes' fault for not paying attention at the technical meeting). You shouldn't have to have officials running out to them in the middle of the street, seconds from the finish, saying, "no, go over to the left."

+1
Ethiopians are dirty runners.
Here Chris Chavez say Desisa threw out his arms to try and block Cherono.
