Op claims to be from Texas. Well guess what, there are 16 D3 colleges in Texas. and 12 D2 colleges I don't know how many are public and of those how many have xc and track, but I see at least a few that are public. If your grades are so bad that you can't get into one of these where they'll take anyone who wants to walk on, you need to go to community college and really get serious about your training. Running in college is absolutely worth it, but its not worth it for a guy who hasn't even broken 18 minutes to go into debt at some academically bad college in Arkansas. 1830 guys don't get scholarships, even at schools with bad teams. At any school that offers decent scholarships, 1830 guys don't even walk on. This 15k they're getting sounds like something they'll give anyone who goes there (because private tuition is so high) or maybe they'll give to any athlete to fill out unpopular sports teams.
So now, you made the choice to not buckle down either academically or athletically in high school and you have to face the consequences. With it being mid april, all you can do is hope to run a small track pr in the remainder of the year to feel good about. You should have come to letsrun asking for advice in april of last year. Maybe we could have helped you get fast enough to walk on at a d2 in texas. Now you've got to pick a school from the ones you got into that are affordable for your family or go to comm college. In either option if you fully dedicate yourself to studying and running, you can get 3-4 years of xc and track even if you can't walk on the team at first by going to grad school. I expect you to pick a comm college or 4 year college option and for your next thread to be about how you can improve as a runner.
