American marathoners are relegated to second- or third-tier status. It was great that 2 finished under 2:10 but is that the best we have to offer? Now that Hall and Ritz are retired or soon-to-retire are we never going to see another American break 2:08? Is 2:09:xx the best we can hope for? Sad. But, I think American bodies are not built to go 2:04. Only the East Africans have the build to go that fast. Just my two cents.
Don't get this. Since when is Rupp a second tier runner? Seriously? 2nd tier runners don't win Chicago marathons or blow the doors of everyone in Prague. Or win medals in the Olympics. He's demolished numerous 2:04 runners.
