I've never trained for the 10K specifically but wanted to give it a proper go (race in 7 months and about to start base). My question: should I approach training more like I would for a 5K or a half marathon, or is the training significantly different from both?
My staple workouts for the 5K would be 5/6 x 1K @ 5k pace and 20 min tempos or cruise intervals. For the half I would do 3 x 2 mile @ HM pace and progression long runs with the final few miles at race pace. Are there any similarly key workouts for the 10K and at what stage in the cycle should I apply them?
I will be doing this following a base phase where I will build mileage from 30 to 50/60 mpw (I maxed out at 40 last cycle). I have a 5K pr of mid-17 and a half pr of mid-1:24 (so suspect aerobic endurance is a weakness) if that affects what workouts will be best.
