He must’ve geezered quite a few younger runners who are now irately posting ITT.
Great effort, Gene.

If Gene is doing great for his age - and I think he is - then how is it runners only a decade older are 30 minutes faster? Alternatively, would you expect a masters runner to lose 30 minutes in 12 years, between ages 59 and 71?
Every few years a talent for stupidity emerges on these boards which seems once in a lifetime. For years that record set by Jon Orange was seemingly untouchable. And then you came along.
Congrats Gene! Amazing!!!
Here's an interesting thread on Dykes:
was he on a teamusa? why is he wearing team usa gear in the video?
Yes, he is. USATF gave us Rio leftovers to wear in Toronto (sort of a PanAm meet) and world's and requires us to wear it. We look sharp! Before that first Toronto meet, everybody wore a hodge-podge of USA gear and it was a little sloppy.

Why am I stupid? For pointing out that Lance Armstrong's power outputs have been exaggerated by 10% or more and that EPO is not a performance enhancer because you can't circumvent thermoregulation?
Am I stupid for trying to get people to stop being such cowards and confront this dogma?
Yes maybe, but someone has to.

Well, now that we've established you have no arguments - there's a complete dumb*ss award for that, too.
Armstronglivs, you do spend an awful lot of time posting on these masters threads with some kind of agenda that seems like envy. Why don't you get a life?

He mentioned that he hired a coach five years ago. This shows a completely different attitude and this leads to better results. Running six decades does not mean that you always did it the same way or always optimally.
Look at the video. He runs like a clockwork and seems lively. This is what someone who can do it looks like. And yes, I expect a masters runner to lose 30 minutes in 12 years. This can easily happen if something comes in between (other goals, illness, fate, whatever). And if health permits, you can improve again. Not everyone but some.
If you have no problem with a masters runner losing 30 minutes in 12 years, then you do realise if he had lost the same amount of time in the previous 12 years he would have been running off a sub-2 hour marathon? In his late forties.
But you not getting the point that the rest seem to believe here, that athletes don't really age - they just get a little slower. Sorry - they get faster.

Hey Jon...have you been hiding out in the bushes just waiting for someone to call out your name? ?

What I love about the principle of free speech is that to most here it is a requirement to agree with them. Clearly, there's an approved point of view. The irony is that my initial comment was to say I found Gene's performance believable. I wonder what level of I.Q interprets that as envy.

Yes to all of those.
BTW you said you would release your "formula" soon 10 years ago. Did we miss that?
