Why is pterodactyl not pronounced "terro-dack-till" with no p sound?
who knows and who cares. geoffrey is an extremely uncommon name in America. kind of like if you go to Ghana and they are unable to pronounce very common American names
Geoffrey is an English name, same as almost all American names. Ever meet a guy named Jeff? Same name, just spelled phonetically (the people working Ellis Island weren’t very smart).
america does not spell it with a G.....ever

I just think it's disrepectful of sports commentators not to bother to find out how to pronounce what is a fairly simple name.
I've never heard anyone pronounce it as "Joffrey" unless that's how that person't parents intended it.

I have never heard this in my life. Are you sure that "so many" Americans do this?
Sounds like Joffrey to me:

Geoffrey Kamworor also seems to prefer that pronunciation:

You have a hearing disorder then.
No, all good. Try listening again - closing your eyes might help.

I've had this exact debate with a few sports commentators (seriously), and in several cases they said they HAD asked the athletes. I think the video posted above illustrates this point: listen to Kamworor pronounce his first name. I hear it as "Jeff-rey," but I also understand how someone (particularly if they're British) might hear it as "Joff-rey." (Kamwo is one the examples where the commentator said they'd asked the man himself how to pronounce it.)
So in the end, I think it's a case of how the Kenyan accent is heard slightly differently by people with two different accents (American and British).

They do learn how to pronounce their names... which is why they correctly pronounce it like "Joffrey" instead of the American way "Jeffrey." Larry Rawson says some cringeworthy things but he does make an effort to get the names right
If as guy says he wants to be called Joffrey, I'll call him Joffrey. Otherwise no.
