Fauble looks strong. He is USA's top runner, most likely
Yeah still 2:54 gap at 20 miles, they're not closing
Ritz hanging off the back
5:45 mile 20 for Degefa. Now she's even looking at her watch.
But 20 is UPHILL and 21 is EVEN MORE Uphill. So expect a slower 21st mile. Real question is what she runs on mile 22.

I've never understood this issue of 'I didn't know there was someone ahead'.
Catherine Ndereba got Silver in Beijing Olympics because 'she didn't know that Domescu (or whatever her name was) was ahead.
Question, how did she (the winner) slip out of everyone's attention?
The american men are showing up today!!! This has been a fun race so far

She may get caught. But they noted her lead was shrinking as she was moving up the hill and they were still on the flat. She does finally look like she is slowing down, but that was a false comparison for sure.
Degefa is now starting to pay the price -- lots of spitting, almost continual nose blowing, and stride seems to be shorter. She may still hang on for the win, but those last 5 miles will be tough.

I've always thought that in a tailwind situation it makes some sense for an elite to hang a few meters behind the pack so he can hit the tangents exactly. Which you can't do in a big pack. Can make back 100 meters that way, I bet.
Fauble at the front of the race, Jared ward still in the lead pack too and Dathan just a few steps behind. All on ~2:08 pace. Definitely can't complain about the US men not going for it today. Fun to watch
