Just want to note first, that I track my heart rate using a Garmin 225 watch for everything. I hope whatever inconsistency the watch brings to the table is applied to all my runs, making them consistent within themselves.
Anyway, my normal runs might have heartrates in the high 140s, 150s, or low 160s when they aren't workouts, with maxes around 170-180. Workouts can bring this average HR up to 170s, and interestingly I often get my highest heartrates during easy cooldown runs, where I have gotten maxes of low 200s so far.
Yesterday, I ran a race all out, definitely didn't have anything left. But my watch says my avg HR was ~160 and max ~170. Could this be an error with the watch? Or are heartrates weirdly lower during races.
I want to note that every race I have ever done has this same thing happen, with much lower heartrates than what would be expected.
