Having spent some time with RRR in a watering hole, this is the least surprising thing I've heard on these boards this week.
I even drank mine faster as to get to the warm pint sooner. Falling on the sword for another.
Also I have not gotten into legal trouble or fell from the dock (yet). Only one more night to fade!!
In the category of always be prepared to adjust your game plan...
Arrived at the airport at 6:30am for our 8:20am flight out of Philly to Boston. Checked our bag, got through security, grabbed a bite to eat, yada yada yada. Even ran into Bart Yasso who was going to be on our flight and got a selfie with him.
At 7:30am, they announced on the loudspeaker that due to heavy fog in the area, all incoming flights were circling the airport waiting for the fog to clear. Just before 8:00am, they announced our incoming flight was being diverted to Hartford until further notice.
With no guarantee of departing anytime soon, we got our bag sent back to check-in, picked it up, threw it in the car and drove the 5 hours to Boston.
We arrived just after 1pm, hit the expo and visited RRR, grabbed a bite to eat, snapped a couple photos, and headed back to the hotel to crash until dinner.
No matter the forecast, no matter the pre-race obstacles, no matter anything else...we didn’t come this far just to come this far.
We got a date tomorrow with a really big clock and a big yellow finish line on Boylston...
Hey everyone.
Letting my knee heal so no running for me this week. Jogged .6mi total (to the gym and back), swam about 1000y and cycled 20ish miles. I have a meeting with a pt on tuesday, hopefully will be back training soon.
stopping by mostly to wish good luck to everyone running boston tomorrow, crush it!!
Not quite the week I drew up thanks to a rough workout Tuesday but it could've been worse.
M - 8 miles with 4x 300/500. Goal was mile-ish pace for the 300s and a semi-decent jog for the 500. Averaged 46.4 and kept the off sub-7 pace so mission accomplished.
46.2, 2:10, 47.3, 2:11, 46.8, 2:11, 45.5
T - Warm up and cool down + 2400, 1600, 800, 400, 400, 200, 200. Breezy evening and didn't feel sharp anyway so this went south fast.
7:46, 5:16, 2:29, 67.6, 67.6, 29.1, 28.5
W - off
T - 11.3 with 6x 150. Overall average was 6:20 so pretty relaxed.
F - warm up and cool down + 8x 300/500
47.1, 48.5, 47.6, 47.7, 47.0, 47.5, 46.6, 43.0. 500s averaged around 2:05 so this was a total of 4 miles averaging 5:45ish.
S - 7 miles easy
S - 16 miles averaging 6:25, nothing crazy but a solid long run.

Your noble gesture brings a tear to my eye... (and good to meet you yesterday).
It's gonna take me about an hour to set all my tracking. At least. Really excited for tomorrow.
BTW, just to clarify - no 5K PR yesterday - I was 2 seconds off. But 18:53 at age 44 age grades higher than 18:51 at age 43.

Upcoming: half on 4/28, 5k on 5/27

Th. 7.5 with middle 5 at 7:00 pace
F. 11.5 flat, easy
S. 7 rolling hills easy
Total 45.5
After the run last Sunday, some children goaded me into bouncing on a trampoline and running up a half pipe wall. Fun? Yes! Dumb? YES! No pain at the time. Next day, a weird sensation similar to pain in the left calf. Seems to be gone after a few days of babying. Close one.
Ya'll gonna crush it tomorrow, can't wait to hear about it.

Go Beantowners!
Occasionally I like to take a break from trolling and lurking the forum to give a shout-out to those who are "entering the arena"! If there is any doubt that Boston is the amateur Olympics, then I don't know what to say -- just about every other post on LR is related to Boston today.
I hope all of you that are running Boston tomorrow are taking it all in and enjoying the experience. You're not likely to find a stronger field anywhere else. Be sure to take a look around you when you're lining up in your corral -- everyone around you has met a similar standard, has similar goals, and will be able to keep up with you. Boston is the reward for all of your hard work, and the spectators are there for YOU. Let their energy drive you and guide you to your goals!
I'd like to give a special shout-out to OutsideRunner, who is perhaps the greatest Cinderella story and hope for the common middle-aged runner that LR has ever produced. OutsideRunner, it is amazing how far you have come in a couple of years. Your dedication and raw talent are an inspiration to those of us who are aging but still fighting the good fight. I can see that your collaboration with The Stone Cutter has produced some exceptional performances, and I sense a new confidence and maturity that comes from you proving your fitness on a consistent basis through your tune-up races. You are ready for this challenge, OR! Can't wait to see what you do tomorrow!!
I've put everyone's bibs into my tracking application, and I will be sending all of the positive metaphysical vibes that I can muster!! Good luck to all!!!

Amen, and well said. My re-introduction to Letsrun after a decades-long hiatus was his "double-back" thread. What a story back then, and, wow, what an incredible story since then.
And best wishes to then entire Boston gang. I hope to catch the NBCSN coverage, and track at least a few of you tomorrow. Looking forward to the morning!
Good luck to everyone racing in Boston! I will be following you guys. Go get it!

No need to summarize! Here is the thread which made OutsideRunner "LetsRun Famous"!!!

Awesome! Can’t wait to peruse. Thanks!
You are in for an extended read but it is worth it to see how it all plays out.
Hopefully there is a mini fridge!
Hey everybody,
Been a little swamped with non-running-related stuff the past couple of weeks, but wanted to stop by to cheer on the Boston crew. You guys have put in some great work and you're ready to throw down tomorrow. Something like this...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wufjQQK2NRU
Have a great run and enjoy the experience!
Not that this will do any good because it will likely match about 500 other dudes in Hopkinton, but I’m planning to wear: navy beater sweats, white adidas cap, clear poncho, black Asics. (Racing in: blue Nike Streaks, black shorts, blue adidas singlet, white cap.) Blond beard, unfortunately trimmed to a presentable length. Say hey if you think you see me.
Sweet dreams...
Good Luck Everybody at Boston!

The few weeks have been good in terms of running consistency. I am hoping this is the start of a good build. I was supposed to race last Sunday, but decided against it. I have never been good at taking it easy on race day, and I would rather run PR fast in the fall than run destructively decent now.
Mon 4/8: 10.5km at 4:16/km. A little quicker than most of my training this year, but my left achilles felt okay. There isn't really any pain; just a feeling that reminds me not to go too hard.
Tues 4/9: Planned day off
Wed 4/10: Gym. I started a strength routine that is 5 sets of 5 reps: deadlift, squat, and a rotating exercise. This day was overhead press. This is after a 15 minute stretching set and a 20 minute core routine. The strength stuff is interesting. I have been doing more of this stuff this year and it seems to be paying off. I feel much more upright when I run. The 5x5 routine is much better. I feel like I am actually working instead of just pushing weight and counting to 10. Did a 7km treadmill run in 30 minutes and finished with 5 sets 5 reps of bicep curls.
Thursday 4/11: Unplanned day off.
Fri 4/12: AM- Another gym day. 15 minute stretch, 20 minute core and then 5x5- deadlift, squat, incline bench press. At this point I am keeping the weight low and working on form. Everything felt good, but I am sore in places I normally don't feel very much. Finished with 7.5km on the treadmill in 30 minutes. I am keeping the treadmill runs at 13-14km/hr on the machine. Again finished with 5x5 bicep curls.
PM- 10.5 km at 4:22/km. Another good run with no pain.
Sat 4/13: 10.5 at 4:44/km. One thing I know I need to do is really take easy runs at a much easier pace. I have a tendency to start running and do the daily runs too fast. It felt a little strange to slow myself down, but using the pace function on the watch helped.
Sun 4/14: "long run" 14km at 4:30/km. A very relaxing and enjoyable Sunday morning jaunt around the hilly neighborhood. Total for the week was 60km on the nose.
I am looking forward to following Boston tonight. Good luck to all the runners and nice work in the 5km Darkwave.
