IAAF won't recognize times from last year's African Champs because the venue wasn't "certified by IAAF"

"Athletics Kenya has clarified that IAAF does not recognise the times athletes posted in Assaba, among them a Championships Record set by Team Kenyan because the venue of the championship, Stephen Keshi Stadium, had not been certified by IAAF....

The World Relay Championships will be held from May 12-13 in Yokohama, Japan. Kenyan team of Jared Momanyi, Alphas Kishoyian, Aron Koech and Emmanuel Korir set a new 4x400m Championship Record of 3:00.92 in Assaba, beating South Africa (3:03.50) and Nigeria (3:04.88) to gold at the championship.

The three countries surpassed the World Relay qualifying time of 3 minutes, and 05.00 seconds."

result is certified in the free world.

My understanding is that a track doesnt need to be certified by IAAF for records to count? I thought if a national body that is a signatory of IAAF certifies it, that counts? So it should only not count if either 1) nobody certified it or 2) it was certified by an unqualified organization

Anybody know otherwise?

This is such a classic IAAF moment right here. They aren’t even prepared for their own events. If there’s potential for any kind of record, they need to be prepared for it to actually be able to count. Joke of an organisation.

Good NPC response. Your soc profs will let you again bury your face in their laps.

The IAAF recognizes WRs from doped to the eyeballs rarely tested E. Africans. So this is a bit inconsistent.
