I just noticed that the Florida State Head Track Job was listed on the NCAA website. Any news on who might be in line for this job? How about the Assistant positions?

Apparently the current FSU distance coach is sketchy. Colorado (Palisade) high school phenom Natalie Hughes' went there in 2000. Her HS coach (a friend) was told Natalie could go there and transfer unconditionally if she wasn't happy at Florida State. She wasn't happy. The FSU coach disavowed the conversation. Always get that type of stuff in writing but it still reflects poorly on their program. I'm not surprised there is a coaching shake-up taking place in Tallahassee.
Well, obviously no one posted thusfar has researched the position. The Head coaching position is available. The aforementioned distance coach currently holds an assistant position. Judging a coach based on heresaid evidence (one instance, by the way) isn't very fair to the person. I can gurantee to you that Bob Brahman sp? is a pretty fair and all around good guy. I gurantee you that the positive experiences with his runners far outweigh the ratio of negative ones. And even that ratio is probably well below the NCAA average. How could you leave Fla. State? I'd be in heaven there.
I agree. I have spoken a few times with coach Brahman and he seems like a great guy. Always been very friendly to me...
Is Brahman going to be around. Is he the next head coach?
Bob B at FL State is one of the best coaches around. If you can't get along with him you can't get along with any coach. He did a great job at Univ of Southern FL. He is a great runner, too. I'd run for him in a minute, if I could.

Braman is an assistant coach at FSU. He formerly coached at USF - University of South Florida. While he was the coach at USF he was able to put together some decent teams with the help of some non Americans. He's a good guy. I think Jeremy Edge and Sheldon Monderoy, both former USF athletes post on this board occasionally. Maybe they have some insight.
Braman was promised the head job when Terry Long retired, as incentive for leaving USF. He is the reason for the big turn around at FSU. Look at their conference finishes before and after he arrived. He is super enthusiastic and a tireless worker.
opinions from monderoy would be biased as he got kicked off the team for harrassing some of the teams women. bob kicks ass

I received an 'other side of the story' message from Bob B. at FSU and forwarded it to Natalie's assistant to Randy Cooper (Joseph Sheader) at Palisade, CO high, both former Adams State runners and teammates. Joseph had provided me with this info. last August and I've known/trusted him for many years. Apparently Natalie was homesick and Adams State had made strong inquiries, maybe pushing the envelope. Natalie apparently has outgrown her homesickness, found a new boyfriend, and seems to be happy and running better at FSU.
The times I have talked to Natalie, she said she was happy with her decision and had valid reasons why she chose Fla St. And she admits homesick. I think judging by her results (top american freshman miler outdoors, All American, indoor qualifier this year) she is receiving pretty good coaching. Look at some other names (Vicki Gill, Joep Tigchelaar) and compare their success to those of the distance program before Braman came to FSU (no women's team had ever qualified for nationals before this fall) and it would be hard to call Bob Braman sketchy.
I would love that job...Maybe a older sales rep who runs marathons in his early 40s would be a nice fit....ya think..??
I agree-if you have problems with Braman something is wrong with you. I was coached by him at USF in 98 and 99. He's motivated, friendly, and he knows exactly what it takes to win.
So it sounds like it his job? Or are there other candidates?
I hear there is some controversy as to who may get the job. I am sure that both assistants want the job. Perhaps someone from the outside would be a better pick.
I have actuall heard some outside names being mentioned amongst the favorites for the job. I am just curious if there is any truth to this.
I am serious..I want that damn job
The FSU job was UT-Chattanooga coach Bill Gautier's job a few years ago and he backed out to stay closer to home..Maybe since they are probably shutting the mens program down next year at UTC ,he may be interested again. HE GETS THE JOB DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think we can find some better examples of USF track performances that Sheldon Monderoy and Jeremy Edge (no offense to either). How about 2 X NCAA 5K Champion Jon Dennis, a 4 X 1500 team that ran 15:11 at Penn, Sheldon Collins 1:48 - 800, John Bowden 3:41 - 1500, Dror Vaknin 29:12 - 10K etc. Not only is Braman a great guy but he has the coaching credentials to back himself up. I would think that the only reason why the job is being advertised is because they have to.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
I think Letesenbet Gidey might be trying to break 14 this Saturday
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
