No one is keeping you from working 65 hours a week. Get a second job. Drive a cab. You can work all 144 hours that there are in a week as a cab driver. Start your own business. Stop whining.

1) Start your own business, then you can work as hard as you want
2) As an employer I don't want wage slaves. I want productive, creative and smart people, not zombies who never leave their desk or factory station
3) Go get another job elsewhere
4) Surely there must be something more fulfilling in your life than work? Go have some fun, have a relationship and experience life.
I don't like the system either for a million different reasons. It is conformist and bureaucratic as fukk thanks to liberals/millennials. My pops used to work 80 hours a week in a steel mill which ended up bankrupt and had to leave him redundant thanks to stupid laws. The place was charged with violating some stupid laws. He struggled to find anything for a long time and even had to stand outside Home Depot for a while so people could give him manual work for the day.

My buddy grew up in a neighborhood of a city that had a bunch of steel pressing plants. My buddy has pictures of neighborhood functions where every adult male is disfigured. Every. single. one. Every adult male had disfigurements from the pressing machines. Prior to attending college my buddy thought it was normal for neighborhoods to look like the land of misfit toys.
Man, I'm glad OSHA exists.
OP has been getting destroyed and goes home DEVASTATED!!

If it was up to me, I would work 65 hours a week. 10 hours a day, 13 out of 14 days. Very few employers allow hourly employees to work more than 40 hours due to laws that mandate 150% pay beyond that. Supposedly the labor movement is doing hourly workers a huge favor by placing these constraints on our employers. All they're doing is forcing me to sit around for two days a week with nothing to do when I should be working and making more money. "Oh but some people have families and don't want to work more than 40 hours." -- then let them seek jobs that don't require them to work more than that. Let people decide for themselves how much they're willing to work.
Why don't you get another part time job then? Why don't you uber on the side? Sell special edition video games on ebay? Make art and sell it on etsy. Making more money than what a 40 hour job pays is very easy in today's society, you just have to do it instead of being lazy and bitching about how you want more money on the internet.
I don't know your profession but a huge number of hourly workers get 5-10, or sometimes more hours of OT per week.
What's a better solution? Employees and employers sign an agreement stating that the employee will get regular time for hours over 40 per week? Because employers would abuse that to the max by forcing employees to sign that as a condition to get a job.
Get a side hustle, second job, or find an employer willing to pay you for the time you want to work.

You don’t protect us. Our military is bigger than yours. Prick. In all WWIII projections the USA sends 4 divisions to continental Europe, of which zero would be needed. The Germans would of halted the USSR every single time.
You haven’t won a war since 1945...and the Russians won that for you...pricks.
Not to disparage the Russian war effort, but the war with Japan was won almost unilaterally by the Americans.

None of this adds up. Most companies encourage overtime where desired (if not require it) because if you hire a new FTE there are a ton of overhead expenses related to onboarding and benefits that well exceed the 50% pay rate incurred during OT. Unless you are working for a gas station that doesn’t pay benefits, in which case, your ambition may exceed the potential offered by your current employee.
Well then work more Beeaahhtchay.
And quit spraying your bs tripe on LRC.
....If you really wanted to work non-stop, then start a business of your own and see how working nonstop for years on end turns out for you.
And stop complaining snowflake!
There is no government/socialist agenda stopping you. ....Just in your head, dooosh.

Except West Germany at the time would have dealt with East Germany in a two front war if it came to that.
40 hours should do it if you are working hard.

Unions?
35 hours is the standard in Europe, workers and companies are happy, and yes, we do pay tax, but the healtcare is free and very effective and good for all.
This post betrays an unfortunately simplistic view of work, economics, and healthcare. The Twitter generation has created a mic-drop scenario out of what used to be detailed and collegial discourse on complex topics.
When? When has there been "detailed and collegial discourse on complex topics" ?
In America, we have worked hard to create a balance of power. This is true in Government where there are 3 branches that act as a check and balance on each other. In business, owners had all the power at the beginning of the industrial revolution. Workers were exploited, so they got together and formed Unions so that they had some level of control and coordinated electing people to pass laws to protect them. Each side ebbs and flows in its power over time. The pendulum is swinging back toward capitalists again despite the fact that many workers are unhappy with offshoring, wage stagnation, automation, etc. Capitalist propaganda is working well if the unhappy worker is demanding LESS controls on Capitalists so they can do more offshoring, automation and keep workers from working enough hours to get benefits or a living wage. The laws are not making Capitalists do that, they are doing it for profit. If workers band together, they can increase their power. But again the propaganda is doing well at demonizing unions and laws that protect workers.

Hey moron, there is no federal limit on number of hours worked, just a limit on how much money your company is willing to pay. I believe OSHA tried to change this so that fatigue was addressed, but capitalism won out. I've had many 100+ hour workweeks and nearly crashed driving home.
Also, you can go eff yourself. Unions fought for 40 hours being the norm. It used to be there was no such thing as overtime pay and children could work as well. Get a time machine and find a job pre-world war I but after the industrial revolution kicked off. You'll live to be 40, die, and probably would have spent your whole life being even saltier than you are now.
Well said. There are plenty of examples of other countries that have the same kind of output on even less hours worked. There are studies showing how much time is wasted each week. Life should be more fun. Most people working a 40 hour a week job can get all their work done in 20-30 hours/week. If anything, we should stop staying at the office with nothing to do just because we have to and start doing more enjoyable things with our time.
I want dirty water like Flint.
I want cars that will kill me if I bump into something.
I want cars and trucks spewing poison.
I want my kids to die from tetanus and bleed out because defective playgrounds cut their arteries.
I want food to kill me because it's toxic.
I want the paint in my house to shorten my lifespan.
I want to breathe in asbestos because it's fun.
I want the sun to be blotted out from smokestacks.
I want zero parkland or open space, drill and mine everywhere.
I want the rivers to burn.
I want the ocean glowing green.
The ocean should be solid plastic, too.
I want to work 15 hours a day 7 days a week.
I want my kids to have to work, too.
I want to die at 40 because I'm worked to death.
I want my kids to have no life because they work starting at 5 years of age.
REFORGER!
The US would have sent a few divisions to pre-positioned equipment in West Germany. Soviets outnumbered us 2.2:1 in the late eighties. Read Red Storm Rising.
There was a big fear the Big One would go up in the late '70s to the late '80s.
The US 11th ACR and various armored divisions were guarding Fulda, but the Russians would have probably gone over the top and attacked through the Central or Northern German plains and/or the industrial cities up north.
The US and NATO had a good plan in place to defend Europe.
