Here is mine:
Ride: 50% (Feel, Cushion to Weight Ratio, Energy Return, Fun)
Fit: 30% (True to size? Lockdown? Comfort?)
Value: 20% (Retail Cost vs Performance and Durability)
Style: 10% (Highly subjective, I know, but still matters)
All four areas graded from 1-5:
1. Among worst in the industry
2. Below average
3. Average
4. Above average
5. Among the best in the industry
I like a 5 point scale more than a 10 point scale because I just think quintiles are easier to interpret. The difference between a 3 and a 4 is more pronounced than, say, a 5 and a 6. Plus, a 5 point scale has an easily recognizable midpoint, whereas a 10 point scale can be misleading (5 seems like a midpoint, but it is actually below average if grading from 1-10... and who uses 0-10, really?)
All of this is really easy to set up on Numbers. OK, I already have done it. Here are just a few:
Nike VF 4%: 5, 4.5, 4, 5 = 4.68
Nike Zoom Streak LT3: 4.5, 4.5, 4.5, 5 = 4.55
Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit: 4, 4, 4, 5 = 4.09
Adidas Pureboost DPR: 4, 4, 3, 4 = 3.82
New Balance Zante 4: 2, 3, 3, 4.5 = 2.68
And yes, I know that using .5s may seem to fly in the face of my anti-ten-point scale rant above. Bite me.
OK, so how would you set up the end-all, be-all rubric to grade running shoes? Are my percentages about right? Are there any categories worth rating that I left out?
Looking forward to procrastinating some more in an hour or so by reading your responses!
