So my team is pretty mediocre in terms of both the runners who run and the coaches who coach. I normally run the 400/800 (55.4, 2:11 guy) but wanted to try out the mile once last week and ended up running 4:57 on my first go. I thought to myself, "Cool I broke 5, guess I'll go back to concentrating on the 400/800." Little did I know, I happened to run the only sub 5 mile of anybody on the team this season and now my coach won't stop putting me in it. I tell him constantly that I'm not a mile runner and that I want to work on lowering my 400/800 times yet he won't give me break. So, at today's meet, he had me down for the 800/1600 (even though I asked him repeatedly to not put me in it) and I ended up scratching it and would end up only running the 800 (PR'd ran 2:05). But oh boy was my coach furious. He said I let down the team by not running the 1600 and that I would be running it for the next 2-3 meets and nothing else...... The meet we were at had a considerable amount of schools so I would've somehow needed to run a 4:41 in order to even gather any points, which would not have happened. I scored us a point in the 800m, which would not have likely not happened if I happened to run the mile before.
So is my coach wrong in punishing me for scratching the mile even though I had asked him repeatedly to NOT PUT ME IN IT AGAIN
