You want to see some body looks like he's suffering during a whole race, get a vid of Emile Zatopek. Some funny running is awesome!

Inversely speaking, the Mile is 4 times more exciting and athletic than the 32/2m.
....And even moreso, the most exciting event in T&F, the 800.
Yes, I agree, for those with limited mentality.
In fact you're forgetting the most exciting event in the universe, the 40 yard dash!
Not sure I agree with the Brojos that in a draft anyone would take Nico Young over Cole Sprout because he's improved more in the last year.
I'd want to look at how much they've ran in the last few years. Clearly Cole Sprout has been running a lot for a long time. In his Arcadia interview he said he runs 45MPW during the season, which isn't crazy, but probably means he runs like, 60-70 or a little more during the offseason, would people agree? I bet Nico Young got on it a little later, but no doubt he has been running almost as much the last 2-3 years. There is an initial large bump the first 2 years of serious training, and it tends to level off after that. Wouldn't be surprised if both these guys improve by about the same amount next year.
The dude that (I thought) was undertrained and would see the biggest jump was Culpepper, because he claimed he never ran before his sophomore year of HS or something like that, but he hasn't really made the jump yet, and might not ever be on the level of these guys. Might be more of a 10th-15th type at NXN next year. He's smoking fast (1:54/4:12a as a soph, 4:09i this year), so I think he could give these dudes a run in the mile/1600.
Anyone heard what is going on with Easton Allred since his move to Utah? He was only a second back from Young and 3 seconds back from Sprout at NXN.
It's hard to know what each of them have done in the past and what their current workouts are. In a recent article in the LA Times, Yound said he started running track at age 5, so hardly a late start.
From what people have told me, I highly doubt anybody is training harder than Nico Young. The stories of their workouts are crazy and sounds like they are pretty much racing every workout, but this is obviously third hand info, so obviously unreliable and probably exaggerated. One workout I heard recently was 4x1600 at 4:18-4:21. If that's true, seems crazy.
That workout is insane. Seems borderline impossible, even if they had 5+ minutes rest between.
I ran around 4:28 in HS, and I don't think I ever ran mile repeats faster than about 5:15-30. Hard to remember that far back (getting older...).
Interesting about his training, though. If that's the case, I take Cole Sprout all day every day in a draft. Dude is a generational talent, very smart and reasonable, not too hard on himself after losses, great perspective. With that kind of measured approach already in HS, I think he's well-prepared to steadily improve until he's 30-35 and being a consistent factor on the national level. Can't wait to see what he does in May/June.
My point on the repeats is that I wouldn't expect that they could run 4x1600 at anything faster than about 5K pace or just below. For Nico I guess that could be something like 4:30-35, which still seems nuts to me, but 4:20 pace seems impossible.

Maybe don't believe anything or everything you read on Letrun. I wouldn't believe anything you hear second or third hand. Unless I hear this info first hand with detail, it's complete garbage.
Everyone knows that stuff on Letsrun is either not true or greatly exaggerated. However, in the case of Nico's training, there is enough out there with stories of craziness that it gives an indication it is pretty extreme.

The only thing out there is Letsrun trolls. Do you really think anyone who knows whats really going on is posting here? If you do believe that, then you're as dumb as the post itself.
Every time a HS kid , college or professional do something great I guarantee they are posting with bad some intentions and just wish they knew.
I saw this same thing happen to a college coach I knew years back and it was comical how people are "in the know". The truth is they are so far from knowing.
Isn't that kinda the point of the boards? Don't people want to discuss, speculate, debate, etc.? Of course it isn't always factual and many times people have no clue. I love hearing what people think, then getting shot down by people we know or think they know. I really love it when there are people debating second hand info, only to be corrected by the first hand people.
I think people get all bent out of shape when they hear people say things like Nico Young's workouts are insane. Why is that a bad thing? If this kid is able to do that workout and run 8:40, why would people have a problem with it? Is there an award for running the fastest with the least amount of work? If the coach is able to get him to workout harder than other kids and run faster, isn't that a positive?

Sorry, I'm confused. What did you see happen to a college coach? It's not clear to me that based on this thread, that something happened to someone.
where do you find middle school stats? I looked on the Athletic and Milesplit pages and couldn't find those results anywhere? not doubting you just want to look at their middle school profiles myself
