Newbury Park has the best 2-miler in the country (one of 10 best all-time) plus the best 9th grade miler in the USA?
How is that possible? 20,000 high schools in USA, that's just too big of a coincidence. What the hell is happening over there?
Well, obviously they are working very hard and the training must be solid. However, another component may be the recruiting. Both Nico Young and Colin Sahlman are from another school district and transferred to Newbury Park. They have 6 boys on that team that ran under 5:00 for 1600 (and one was very close) as middle schoolers. Not just sneaking under, but 4:41, 4:48, 5:51 kind of fast. All of their top 6 boys were absolute studs in middle school.
The entire Ventura county knows that Colin Sahlman was recruited against CIF rules, yet nobody will report it because they want to avoid the conflict.
Holy cow. Where I live there's never been a middle-schooler run faster than 5:30. How do MS'ers out there even get so serious into track?
