That's refreshing news.
I'll look for the race.
Free on demand race videos from Arcadia via runnerspace just look it up
Last lap sub-60 for both.
The 3200 was more competitive than the mile race.

It always is. The 3200 is kinda the point of the meet. Personally, I don't like his coach (Sean Brosnan) but Nico seems alright and it's a very impressive performance.
Both looked incredibly strong the whole race and it was nice to see Sprout want to unsure that the pace was fast. I'm extremely impressed with this from two juniors.

Agreed. Coach is a bit off and full of himself. Unable to stop talking about running for even one second. It's obnoxious.

Actually, Nico looked to me to be struggling throughout, head and elbows kind of wobbly. Some people just run that way though. Cole looked absolutely solid comparison.
He struggled to an 8:40. Of course he was struggling, he is a junior in high school who ran 8:40.
I don't understand the comments about the leaders struggling. If they mean digging deep and fighting for every tick on the clock, I'd say there better ways to describe that than to say one is struggling. 8:40 is ridiculous for 11th graders.
Nico’s form looked awkward, lots of wasted motions with his head and arms. Cole looked much more efficient and strong. But, yeah, Nico won, and ran 8:40, so it doesn’t really matter that he didn’t look good.
He will be running 28 minutes with that form.
Coach is very full of himself. Listen to his comments about Nico. The coach always phrases things as if it was the coach than ran the race and not the athlete. Terrible.
Nico will be the next sub-4 high schooler.
Nico has an amazing stride. Cole and Nico gave a heck of a show. I was at the meet- WOW!!!!!
That is really fast running for these two high school juniors.
In order to run that fast in April, as a junior, requires demanding training as a high school freshman and sophomore plus a lot of talent to begin with.
From all that I read, and the countless stories of the next phenom high school young male or female athlete running so darn fast at early age, only to fizzle or be injury prone through their college athletic careers - who is to blame?
Coaches, parents, media, put a lot of pressure on the next great talent to get what they want.
It would be interesting to see what the top two finishers at the Arcadia 3200 m over the last 5-10 years have gone on athletically to achieve. I hope my assumption is wrong. Same holds true for the recent (last decade) of high school boys who broke 4 minutes in the mile. Grant Fisher and Drew Hunter both broke 4 in high school and have continued to progress and are perhaps America’s brightest young distance running stars - yet the others haven’t. That probably has much to do with how they were trained during their high school years.
Lemme get back to you on this shortly, looks like a spreadsheet would help
Guessing that most have gone on to go some good things because they were primarily seniors and some juniors. The ones that I worry about are the freshmen in the field running 9 flat. Those kids don't need to be traveling the country at 14 years old chasing national class times.
People give way too much credit or blame on previous coaching for the current or future success. Many of these early high achievers have a great situation for running fast, including training, culture, support, etc. When kids move on to college, everything changes. New training, new coach, new team culture, new sleeping and eating situation, new stresses, etc. sometimes it’s as simple as the college situation just isn’t as conducive to running fast for them.
Nico Young’s coach only coaches Nico. This is a huge help for Nico as he gets full attention on every aspect of his routine and runs.
Lets also talk about his freshman teammate running 4:17 to break the 1600 record!!
