Specificity of training. Unsurprising there isn’t carryover between disparate tasks. Not new data or theory.

There is an interesting study out of the UK that says that super fit masters runners do no better on balance tests than sedentary, non-runners even though they crush them in many other areas.
"Balance matters not just for performance, but for longevity. According to NHS statistics, falls are among the major causes of debilitating injury as we age with one third of people over the age of 60 and around half of those in their 80s and over falling at least once a year. In their 20s and 30s, most adults can easily stand on one leg, eyes closed, for 30 seconds or longer whereas the average 70-year-old manages only 4-5 seconds."
https://www.athleticsweekly.com/performance/mmu-study-get-in-balance-1039921880/How long can you stand on one foot with eyes closed? Jesus, I just tried it and fell over after 3 seconds. Does that mean I'm like 75?
If you have an inner ear problem you will not be able to do well at this test.
Frank Meza could go several minutes.
Why would being good at this help you to live any longer?
It's probably the other way around.
Healthier people in good shape, on the average, can balance for longer on one leg.
Therefore they generally live longer, BECAUSE THEY'RE IN GOOD SHAPE AND HEALTHIER, not because they balance longer on one leg.
I did 55 seconds while brushing my teeth. 36 yrs old.
60 years old, 19 seconds
Tested a number of elite marathoners at the Olympic Training center back in 2000 and found few could go more than 20 seconds with their eyes closed. It will be even less if they've had severe knee or ankle injury. With training they could get to 60 seconds but few worked at it.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
